Population
Since 2000, the population of Yuba County has grown at a steady rate with a 10.8 percent
change from the year 2000 to the year 2005. This growth will continue to increase as
road development provides more four-lane highways, making commuting faster and
easier. In addition, lower land costs compared to Sacramento, particularly related to
housing, will keep growth steady and positive. The city of Marysville is the most
populous city in the county, and has increased 2.9 percent from 2000 to 2005. During
that same period of time, the city of Wheatland had an exceptional increase of 50.8
percent as recent housing developments come on line. Table 1 displays data for various
years, beginning in 2000, for the state, county, cities within the county, as well as other
areas for comparison.

Projections
Projections have been calculated out to the year 2025 for Yuba County and its cities and
represent a strong increase in numbers. Yuba County’s population growth is shown to
have an expectant growth rate well above the state and the Sacramento Area at 57.5
percent. Wheatland is projected to be the fastest growing city in the county with a
growth rate of approximately 166.9 percent. Table 2 shows projections for 2005, 2010,
2015, 2020, and 2025.

Median Age
The median age in Yuba County has increased from 29.2 to 31.4 between 1990 to 2000.
During the same time period, median age in the city of Marysville also increased by 2.2
percent, from 31.7 to 32.4. However, the city of Wheatland has shown a significant
decrease in the median age from 33.6 in 1990 to 31.7 in 2000. The decrease is likely due
to in-migration of young workers making the commute to the Roseville or Sacramento
areas.

Race/Ethnicity
Racial and ethnic designations are self-reported in the decennial census.

Despite the steady influx of Hispanics in the last ten years from 6,532 to 10,370, Yuba
County is still predominantly white. This increase of the Hispanic population has been
consistent not only in the county, but also within the cities of Yuba County as well as the
entire state. From 1990 to 2000, the city of Marysville’s Hispanic population increased
from 1,412 to 2,146 (52 percent) and in the city of Wheatland it increased from 193 to
465 (140.9 percent).

The data shows that for the last ten years in Yuba County the following changes have
occurred for other race/ethnic groups: Black or African American decreased from 2,290
to 1,871 (-18.3 percent); American Indian and Alaska Native decreased from 1,571 to
1,353 (-13.9 percent); and Asian or Pacific Islander decreased from 4,785 to 4,637 (-3.1
percent). The following table displays data changes for California, the Greater
Sacramento Area, the Yuba City MSA, and the cities of Marysville and Wheatland.

Educational Attainment

Educational attainment information is used by businesses for market research, including
markets for customers and workers, primarily by those wishing to target customers or
workers of a particular educational level. This information is also useful in determining
the types of jobs that a particular area’s labor market can support. Additionally, an area
with a large number of college graduates usually translates into higher wage-earning
potential, and a more diverse buyer’s market.

Yuba County has shown a consistent increase in high school graduates, some college or
associate degrees, as well as persons with bachelor’s degrees. According to the
corresponding table, Yuba County’s high school graduates has increased by 13.2 percent
in the past ten years, whereas the state has only increased by 2.9 percent and the Greater
Sacramento Area increased by 10.6 percent. The highest rate of increase in high school
graduates has primarily occurred in the city of Wheatland at 29.3 percent and the Yuba
City MSA at 14.9 percent. However, in Marysville the high school graduation rate
decreased by 7.3 percent.
