									                    ADDITIONAL DETAILS TO BIDDERS


                       TENDER NO. KRC/PLM/42/2011

1.   Kenya Railway (KR) is a State Corporation established under the Kenya
     Railways Corporation Act (Cap 397) of the Laws of Kenya. KR intends to
     modernize and expand commuter rail services in Nairobi and its environs.

2.   KR invites sealed tenders from eligible candidates for the supply of
     hardwood railway timber sleepers. The timber sleepers to supplied under
     the contract comprise of the following:

       i.   Assorted timber sleepers of cross-section 254mm x 127mm and
            varying in length from 1829 mm to 3353 mm;
      ii.   1120 number timber sleepers whose volume is approximately 90
            cubic metres (m3).

3.   Interested eligible bidders may either download the tender documents from
     KR’s website: or obtain them from the
     Procurement and Logistics Manager’s office, Kenya Railways
     Headquarters, Workshop Road, opposite City Square Post Office,          1st
     Floor, Nairobi: Tel: 020-2221211, 2210111, 2215796, 2210200,2215211.
4.   Candidates who download the tender documents from the website and
     intend to the bid must register their interest immediately by sending an
     email to stating their names and address. Any
     clarification or additional information will only be sent to tenderers who will
     have been registered or registered directly with the Procurement &
     Logistics Manager. Bidders who are issued with a hard copy of the tender
     documents will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of either Kenya
     Shillings Five Thousand (KES 5,000/=) or US$ 75 for international bidders.
     Those who download the tender documents from the website will be
     required to pay either sum by the date of closing of the tender.
5.   Prices quoted should be inclusive of all Costs including taxes, insurances
     and delivery to KR’s Supplies and Procurement Stores on Workshop road,
     Nairobi, and shall remain valid for Ninety (90) days from the closing date of
     the tender.
6.    Completed tender documents are to be enclosed in plain sealed envelopes
      marked with tender reference and be deposited at the Tender Box located
      on 1st Floor Procurement office, Kenya Railways Headquarters or be
      mailed to:

      So as to be received on or before September 23, 2011 at 10.00 hours,
      East African time.

7.    Tenders will be opened immediately thereafter in the presence of the
      candidates or their representatives who choose to attend the opening at
      KR’s Conference Room on 1st Floor.
8.    A tender security of 2% of the tender price in the form of a bank guarantee,
      sealed and duly signed should be submitted together with the tender/bid
      documents and must be valid for another thirty (30) days after the tender
      validity period.
9.    Interested Candidates MUST submit together with the tender documents
      the following:

        i.    Certified or notarized copies of business registration, certificate of
              incorporation, business licence or similar documents;
       ii.    Financial capacity: Audited financial statements for the last three
              financial years with evidence of cash flow of at least KSh. 5.0 million
              or evidence credit of the same amount from a bank.
       iii.   A statement that the tenderer has not been debarred from
              participating in Public Procurement in Kenya.
       iv.    Technical Competence and Capacity: Details of contracts of similar
              magnitude carried out by Tenderer, production facilities and
              processes, quality control and producer’s certificate.
10.   Kenya Railways reserves the right to accept or reject any tender without
      assigning reasons for its decision thereof.

Canvassing shall lead to automatic disqualification.
