Position Title: DIRECTOR, MEDICAL RECORDS Job Description: Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Medical Record Department; overall responsibility for the planning, administration, control and quality management of department activities in accordance with accrediting, licensing and certifying agencies. Organizes and manages the processing of inpatient discharges, Record Completion, Transcription, Release of Information including research. Also responsible for medical records. The Director assists hospital leaders, medical and nursing staff in analyzing the efficiency and effectiveness of patient care systems. Is the custodian of records for the (Facility Name). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree plus certification as an RHIA or RHIT. Masters degree preferred. Minimum of five years supervisory or leadership experience in HIM in an acute care setting. Extensive knowledge of all health information functions and processes, and of federal and state rules/regulations as they relate to health information. Experience using CQI concepts, tools, and techniques. Strong personal computer, analytical, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills. Experience with Medical Record computerized systems. Experience working with SoftMed and SMS Invision computer systems preferred. Knowledge of DRG and APC reimbursement methodology and third party billing requirements. Knowledge of JCAHO regulations.
