WILDLIFE MANAGER, REGIONAL CLASS PURPOSE To develop and implement a regional wildlife management program; manage a professional staff in the collection and analysis of biological data on wildlife species; perform related work. GENERAL INFORMATION Incumbents are required to fly in fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. These positions involve walking and backpacking for several hours, operating trail bikes, and riding horses in rugged terrain; lifting and carrying up to 65 pounds; working in extreme weather conditions. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Management and environmental plans. Typical responsibilities: evaluates and prepares management plans and land acquisition priorities for wildlife programs in an assigned region; reviews and develops assessment reports and impact statements affecting area wildlife populations and habitat; inspects and evaluates habitat manipulations; prepares recommendations for management of departmentowned wildlife and public access areas; hires and trains staff; assigns work and evaluates performance; develops a program budget; responds to complaints concerning predatory animals; plans and administers animal depredation hunts; conducts
