WEB MASTER CLASS PURPOSE To oversee web operations for multiple agencies; set up, host and provide expert assistance and consultation to client agencies; and/or oversee large, multi-tasking web operations for an agency; perform related duties. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the highest level Web position in State government. It is generally used in one of two ways. Option one: oversees web operations for multiple agencies and must know multiple systems and uses, does full set ups, hosts many of the sites and provides expert assistance and consultation to other agencies. Option two: has full management responsibilities of web operations encompassing multi-tasking functions. The major focus of the duties are as a full Web Master with strong management aspects, typically reporting to top-level management, and supervising other web information technology positions. In addition to performing the following duties under examples of work, incumbents are capable of performing all the duties of a Web Operations Specialist. EXAMPLES OF WORK (Incumbents will perform most or all of the following:) In the capacity of an outside consultant or manager this position: provides access by publishers to HTTP servers so that publications are easily produced and visibility is controlled; insures that servers and browsers are configured to provide visibility of site to the largest possible audience; applies and registers Web servers and sites with Domain Name Services; sets up and implements Web-based CA authorization on Web sites, directories and pages.
