									VISITOR CENTER SUPERVISOR CLASS PURPOSE To manage the day-to-day operation of a gateway visitor information center; represent the Department of Parks and Recreation on a variety of information for the public on State travel, tourism, and recreation; perform related work. GENERAL INFORMATION Visitor Information Centers are located (places). PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Visitor Center Operation. Typical responsibilities: develops and recommends center operational objectives and priorities; evaluates visitor center performance and program activities and insures congruence with department goals and priorities; determines operation hours; assesses needs and recommends program changes or development; recommends and monitors center budget; plans and implements the recruitment and scheduling of staff and volunteer workers; secures and displays statewide brochures, maps, and travel and lodging guides; initiates partnerships and cooperation with USFS, BLM, city parks and recreation departments; participates in and speaks to community groups to promote the visitor center and volunteer program; collects regional travel activities for use by center staff; disperses vacationers to appropriate travel and recreation sites; coordinates volunteer activities program with department organization and community resources; serves on department and regional recreation, travel, and trade committees; provides writing input to grants, writes brochures, produces news releases, and contributes to newsletters; attends meeting
