Shop Superintendent

SHOP SUPERINTENDENT CLASS PURPOSE To plan, organize, direct, and control a multifaceted equipment repair shop involved in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy duty construction type gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and related equipment; perform related work. GENERAL INFORMATION Incumbents may be required to work irregular schedules, holidays, and weekends, and are subject to 24-hour call-back. A multifaced equipment repair shop comprises supervision of staff in at least four major repair areas usually including mechanics, body and fender repair, welding and metal fabrication, and custodial/security services. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Management. Typical responsibilities: manages a diversified repair shop dealing with minor and major repair of a large fleet of specialized vehicles; develops specifications for district equipment, tools, and related maintenance and repair devices; consults with manufacturers and factory representatives on equipment problems, designs, and warranty agreements; tests equipment for design, operational and physical capabilities; prepares reports of equipment utilization, repair costs, and equipment discrepancies; oversees all operations including overhaul, welding, metal fabrication, body and fender repair, painting, field repair, and preventive maintenance; manages a service station and insures security and maintenance of the building complex and yard; hires and trains staff, assigns work, and evaluates performance; handles complaints and conflicts and related person
