PRINTING TECHNICIAN CLASS PURPOSE At the journeyman level, to operate offset printing presses, photolithographic and bindery equipment to produce quality single and multi-color printed material; to perform related work. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Offset printing. Typical duties: reviews job ticket information and determines machine set-up and supplies needed; sets up and operates offset printing presses to reproduce single and multiple color, line, and halftone material by: mixing ink to specified colors, mounting large plates and masters on press; adjusting and setting controls for precise color registration. Monitors ink and water balance and equipment operation to assure quality product; completes printing orders and/or time sheets and denotes materials used; operates a variety of bindery and collating equipment to assemble and finish product; may set up and operate white printer to reproduce engineering drawing. 2. Photolithography. Typical duties: operates photolithographic equipment to produce quality negatives, positives, photo mechanical transfers (PMT's) halftones and plates for reproduction on presses; calibrates, loads and operates photolithogra
