NURSING SERVICES DIRECTOR - SHN/ISVH CLASS PURPOSE To manage and evaluate all nursing service activities of a comprehensive health care program in a state institution or hospital; perform related work. GENERAL INFORMATION Institutions using this classification are the State Hospital North, specializing in chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, and adult psychiatry; and two State Veterans Homes in (city) and (city) specializing in geriatric care and services for qualified veterans. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is an executive level nursing classification. Incumbents manage the comprehensive nursing services of a Department of Health and Welfare institution or hospital, ranging in size from sixty to sixty-six beds. They participate in institutional leadership to assist in the development of institution-wide goals, policies, quality management, and budget. The emphasis is on setting the institution’s nursing leadership and management standards, by coaching, mentoring, and tutoring Nursing staff in hospital-business and employee/client problem solving. NATURE AND SCOPE Nursing Services Directors use a broad nursing and management background to plan, organize, staff, direct, and control a comprehensive institution nursing program that includes all quality of care and quality of life
