									NURSING SERVICES DIRECTOR CLASS PURPOSE To manage and evaluate all nursing service activities of a comprehensive health care program in a state institution or hospital; perform related work. GENERAL INFORMATION Institutions using this classification are the State School and Hospital, specializing in the developmentally disabled and dual diagnosis; the State Hospital South, specializing in adolescent, adult, and geriatric psychiatry; and the State Veterans Homes in (city), specializing in geriatric care and services for qualified veterans. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is an executive level nursing classification. Incumbents manage the comprehensive nursing services of a Department of Health and Welfare institution or hospital, ranging in size from one-hundred sixteen to one-hundred eighty-six beds. They participate in institutional leadership to assist in the development of institution-wide goals, policies, quality management, and budget. The emphasis is on setting the institution’s nursing leadership and management standards, by coaching, mentoring, and tutoring Nursing staff in hospital-business and employee/client problem solving.
