Typical responsibilities: analyzes blood, tissue, and hair samples for wildlife identification and forensic purposes; performs food habit analyses; performs x-ray analyses; performs necropsy disease and reproductive analyses of wildlife; performs control tests on known specimens to insure quality of forensic analyses; implements new molecular technology for genetic identification of wildlife including cloning and sequencing genetic markers; conducts molecular research; analyzes and identifies DNA samples; maintains a DNA library; maintains laboratory and safety equipment and supplies; researches literature to develop procedures, analytical techniques, and procedure manuals; may supervise and train others. 2.
