INSURANCE ANALYST, SENIOR CLASS PURPOSE To research, analyze and make determinations regarding underwriting, rating plans, rate structures and insurance contracts adopted by insurance companies; perform related work. NATURE AND SCOPE Senior Insurance Analysts conduct fact-finding interviews, appeals and hearings with policy holders and company and government officials, and review rate and rate structure information. This may involve investigating consumer complaints relating to underwriting and rating matters and negotiating with company management to resolve issues. They meet with company officials to review issues regarding corporate insurance contracts for compliance with state and/or federal insurance laws. Insurance contracts are analyzed to identify violations, and recommend contract changes. This work requires a considerable knowledge of insurance contracts and coverages to review, audit, and recommend changes for insurance forms, rates, and advertising. Incumbents track and enforce legislative and regulatory requirements at the state and federal levels, regarding property, casualty, health, life, and/or disability insurance. They compose correspondence to inform companies of violations, to explain compliance requirements, and to provide justification for corrective actions.
