									INSPECTOR/ADVISOR, BUILDING SAFETY CLASS PURPOSE To inspect/review construction trade, contractor licensing, building safety or logging activities for compliance with applicable codes, laws and regulations; perform related work. GENERAL INFORMATION Some positions involve: extensive statewide or regional travel; journeyman licensure and extensive trade experience in the respective area of expertise, e.g., electrical, plumbing; crawling and moving material in confined spaces; exposure to hazardous materials and/or conditions; climbing ladders and stairs; and/or the ability to lift and carry object weighing up to 50 pounds. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents are responsible for conducting inspections or reviews of construction activities for a specific department program including determining compliance with applicable codes, regulations and laws, eliminating immediate safety hazards and providing technical advice and assistance in best construction practices and corrective actions. Areas of expertise may include one or more of the following: trade licensure, contractor licensure, construction inspection, industrial safety, and/or logging. Individuals in these positions are considered a technical resource to industries, within their field of discipline, with an emphasis on new technology, innovative practices and materials, training, safety promotion and public education as well as compliance activities. NATURE AND SCOPE The Building Safety Inspectors/Advisors are responsible for overseeing implementation of safety codes, regulations and laws within their specific areas of expertise. Incumbents conduct on-site inspections, investigate complaints and seek voluntary compliance with construction/building safety/logging regulations, and safety standards.
