Aircraft Mechanic

AIRCRAFT MECHANIC CLASS PURPOSE To inspect, maintain, repair, overhaul, and certify state aircraft as safe and airworthy; participate in airport development, lighting and construction projects; perform related work. GENERAL INFORMATION Occasional overnight, seasonal travel to state-owned airstrips is required. Employees must furnish their own hand tools and are responsible for general shop maintenance and cleanup. NATURE AND SCOPE The incumbent performs 100 hour and annual inspections and airworthiness directives on the Division of Aeronautics single and twin engine aircraft as required by Federal Air Regulations. This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of these aircraft power plants and airframes, electrical systems, interior and exterior components. The incumbent is also responsible for the maintenance of the shop, hangar, and aircraft ground support equipment. This requires the incumbent to maintain a current knowledge of HAZMAT requirements, respond to hazardous materials incidents, and act as the safety program manager. The incumbent purchases replacement parts and supplies and maintains a supply inventory. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of aircraft records including log books, work and purchase orders, and other appropriate records. The incumbent’s other duties include making field inspections of airport development, lighting and construction projects; using gas and arc welding equipment to repair and manufacture parts; and periodically assisting Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Certification: current Airframe and Power Plant (A&P); and current Inspection Authorization Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. Some knowledge of: inventory maintenance and aircraft record maintenance and publications. Experience: determining work priorities; repairing and overhauling general aviation single and twin engine cabin class aircraft (reciprocating engines).
