                                      Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences & Disorders
                                      with a Concentration in Speech-Language Sciences (BS-SLS)

NOTE: The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee currently offers all the undergraduate SPA
courses needed for the Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences Disorders, and it intends to offer the
degree starting in 2012, pending approval of the program by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern
Association.

Degree Program Overview
The B.S. in Speech-Language Sciences degree consists of twelve, upper-level major courses within Communication
Sciences and Disorders (CSD). The BS-SLS provides a depth of knowledge for those intending to pursue the field
of Speech Language Pathology. Upon completion of this program, students will be able to apply for graduate
programs in Speech Language Pathology. They may also be eligible to apply for employment in Florida public
school districts. If you are planning to apply to a graduate program, it is suggested you check the admission
requirements of the school you intend to apply to prior to enrolling in this program.
Requirements
    A completed bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution in a field other than Communication
       Sciences & Disorders
    A minimum 2.75 overall GPA in the previous bachelor’s degree and all postsecondary undergraduate
       coursework

BS-SLS Pre-requisites
Must be completed prior to graduation, students may use coursework from previous bachelor’s degree.
Transcripts will be reviewed upon admission.
A Statistics course
A Biological Science course
A Physical Science course
A Social Science course

BS-SLS Format
The CSD courses in the BS-SLS are taught 100% online. The program will be offered as a cohort with two options.
Students can choose the full-time option (four courses per term) or part-time option (two courses per term). Cohorts
will begin only in the summer term.

Additional Program Requirements
    Students must complete online orientation and advising prior to registration for classes
    Must have a 3.0 GPA in USF CSD coursework to graduate
    Maximum of 2 transfer courses (with C grade or better) will be considered towards the major
    Must earn a grade of C (not C-) or better in each USF CSD course with only 1 grade forgiveness

All courses will use Blackboard. To access Blackboard, you will need reliable, daily internet service and an active
USF NetID. Some courses may use Elluminate. The minimum system requirements for Elluminate are below
