Why I don't watch women's pro sports
Sportswriters want to know why men don't watch women's pro teams like the WNBA or the WUSA. This reporter, who is a woman, has no answer to that question. However, she does have an answer to why she doesn't watch.
All the great sports minds, mostly male reporters, want to know why don't men watch women's sports? I can't speak for them, nor as a woman, can I speak for most women. However, I can speak for myself and give you my opinion. You can take with a grain of salt and not the gospel truth. I could give you a semi-simple answer like it's boring to watch and I could really care less, or I could give you the politically incorrect answer and say "why should I waste my good hard earned money to see a bunch of broads play soccer or basketball?" I'm not going to give you any answers like that, although no, I wouldn't waste my money to watch the Los Angeles Sparks play the Houston Comets no matter how good both teams are. As for women's pro soccer, I don't even know the teams, let alone the players. However, this is not to say that I wouldn't watch women playing pro sports. I will watch a tennis match that the Williams sisters are in. I also enjoy watching women's college basketball -- I do like to see a game with the U. of Tennessee Lady Vols vs. the U. of Connecticut Lady Huskies. I even think Cammy Granato is as good a hockey player as her brother, Tony, who coaches the Colorado Avalanche. But, ask me to plunk down my "dead presidents" to see women's professional team sports, and I'll say no thanks, I'll pass. I'd rather spend money to watch the Little League World Series. Some guys think men don't watch women's sports because they're too nice and dainty, just like a woman. Wrong! The best hockey fight I've ever seen was at the old Boston Garden at a game between the Boston Bruins and the Hartford Whalers, now Carolina Hurricanes. It was in the stands and the person throwing most of the punches was a woman wearing a Whalers jersey. She could have given Oscar De LaHoya a run for his money that night! I don't know, and I can't speak for anyone else but me. I like my sports with some kind of "edge" to it -lots of scoring, lots of hits, some offense and defense, if you catch my drift. Plus, I like to really get into my sports, whether it be a really great touchdown, a double play or a really good hockey game with lots of action, and I don't mean just fights. Women's professional sports just don't have that. Without giving any deep historical lesson or philosophical meaning to it, the real reason that I don't watch women's professional sports is a very simple one -- I chose not to.
