        CD Recording, Duplication & Distribution

Recording

We are pleased to offer a homely recording service for demo or full CDs in
relaxing surroundings for acoustic musicians with 19 year old musician and
sound engineer Chris Thornton-Smith. Being both a performing musician for the
last ten years and running his own company for the last five means he
understands what is required and how to achieve it.

He was the choice for award-winning band Kerfuffle for both their last two
albums ‘K2’ and ‘Links’; Charlie Barker’s ‘Sleeping at the Station’ and Ciaran
Boyle’s solo recording ‘The Sunday Walks’.

Recent reviews have noted Chris’s contribution to the final product:

K2 – Dave Kidman – Froots
Finally, a mention for the sound quality - Chris's own production and mixing
skills are already exemplary; he has a keen sense of balance and perspective
and creates an entirely credible blend.

                      Recording and Duplication

There are five elements to consider.

Recording:

Ensure you have sufficient songs to record and that you are well rehearsed. This
also includes any additional arrangements that you may have in mind. If you
intend using extra musicians ensure you have sorted out their contribution.

Mixing

From our experience this works best if we are left to produce the first mix based
on your what you want in terms of a general ‘feel’ to the album plus any specific
requirements on selected tracks. This is supplied on CD for you to approve or
request changes.

Mastering

This will be done once you are happy with the mix. It is the process whereby
levels are lifted before the CD is duplicated and is done to an industry standard.
Once again the result is provided on CD.

Artwork

This is often the cause of the main delays in getting the finished article and we
would prefer to provide this albeit to your designs. We will consider requests for
you to supply it but need to be assured that appropriate software and templates
are being used.

In our experience valuable time is often lost if we have to get designs and formats
amended but then find that you have outsourced the work to someone else who
may not be in a position to respond as we or you would do.

Duplication

Glass mastering is more reliable than burning as the disc is pressed from the glass
master. However, most companies will not consider glass mastering for quantities
less than 1000 so below this number CDs are burnt. We can quote for both
processes and payment is due with your order.

Distribution

Full distribution

We can offer a deal courtesy of Proper Music that means your album can be
ordered in the High Street shops and on the dot.com sites. We simply require
your agreement to release the album on our BPAS label. This means our:

   • logo on the CD
   • catalogue number on the spine
   • contact details and a barcode on the rear tray

In return we would:
    • include the album on our web site for sale
    • include it in any general advertising we do regarding albums
    • include it on any trade stands we arrange at conferences
    • need to hold an initial 30 CDs in stock at our premises
    • administer your album sales each month as part of our catalogue

We should however make certain aspects of this arrangement clear at the outset:

   • Proper will not market or publicise the album. They will respond to a
demand created by BPAS and the artiste.

   • We will only get around £5 per CD once everyone in the chain has been
paid. Whatever the exact figure is it would be split evenly between BPAS
       and the artiste.

   • In addition Proper only pays us once we have accumulated £200 in our
catalogue sales. This is roughly 40 albums in total and we simply split the
amount in line with who has sold which album and how many. You
therefore need to view this arrangement as long term.

   • Orders placed on us by Proper are invariably for boxes of 25 so we would
invoice you £12 for subsequent packing and despatch.

Retail outlet

We can sell the album whether on our label or yours via our web site and any
advertising. This would be on a sale or return basis with a buying price of £4.70
for sale at £11.75 inc VAT and post and packing. Acceptance is subject to us
listening to the album.
