Batavia Air,Beautiful Bali

,Once celebrated as an island paradise edged with beaches and known for its
vibrant culture, Bali's reputation was damaged by the 2002 and 2005 bombings
in which many Western tourists lost their lives. Bali is still officially
a danger area but this shouldn't deter you from visiting what is still a
fantastic island. Indonesia's only Hindu state, Bali has long been a favourite
for holidaymakers from around the world thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and
friendly locals. Most people start their Bali experience in Kuta, the island's
main resort. Kuta's streets are packed with shops, restaurants and tourists
- you'll either love it or you'll hate it. Nearby Legian is slightly calmer
and more upmarket, while the suburb of Oberoi is home to a swathe of popular
eateries and bars. Kuta beach is frequented by surfers and can get busy in
high season. If you decide to stay in Kuta there are plenty of guest houses,
hotels and hostels. Jimbaran Beach a little way down the coast is renowned
for its beachfront seafood restaurants where you can enjoy freshly caught
snapper and squid as the sun sets.Bali's capital city Denpasar is unremarkable
and not particularly lovely. The town of Ubud about an hour inland from Kuta
is a better choice. Best known for its arts and crafts, Ubud is a great place
to escape from the bustle of the more touristy coast. Visit the Neka Gallery
or Agung Rai Gallery to experience Balinese art at its best, then take in
a traditional dance show in the evening. The Ubud monkey forest is great fun.
Buy a bunch of bananas to feed the macaques, but make sure you don't look
them in the eye - cute as they may look, they can turn nasty if confronted!
From Ubud you can hire bikes to trek through the paddy fields outside the
town.Indonesia's volcanic geography is most evident in the central north of
Bali, where Mount Agung (the mother mountain) and Batur rise up from the
jungle. If you don't mind an early start and a brisk hike, get up before dawn
to climb Batur. The view from the summit at sunrise is stunning - you can
even see over to Mount Rinjani on the neighbouring island of Lombok. More
adventurous walkers can trek around the crater of the volcano. The climb is
relatively easy but its best to hire a local guide who will take you up for
a small fee.The western side of the island is home to the Bali Barat National
Park which has over 200 species of birds and plants. The small resort of Lovina
is a great base for exploring this part of Bali. Deer Island has great scuba
diving and snorkeling.Balinese food is best enjoyed in one of the many
'warungs' - small local restaurants which serve traditional fare like nasi
goreng, a rice and meat dish. Try the national brew batavia arrack, a milky
liqueur made from sugar cane - definitely an acquired taste. There are no
direct cheap air flights to Bali from the UK, but check out
flightcomparison.co.uk [http://flightcomparison.co.uk] for connecting

are an additional $267.20. This is aboard Kuwait Air. There are two stopovers
associated with this flight. One is in London then the other in Kuwait
City. From LAX to Mumbai the price of a round trip ticket is $699. The
associated fees and taxes are $309.79. This flight leaves on Continental

.These are just a few cheap flights to India. The price will vary depending
on where you start from but you will end up in India.,,Michael Sedge has been
selling his photos and articles to foreign markets for more than two decades.
His book (THE WRITER’S AND PHOTOGRAPHER’S GUIDE TO GLOBAL MARKETS), can open
the door to these markets for other photographers. I talked with Michael and
asked him about marketing to foreign buyers.“I first began selling images
to foreign publications in 1983,” Michael says. “Today, more than eighty
percent of my photographs sell in places outside of North America -- in Africa,
Asia, and Europe. It is not difficult to sell overseas. In fact, technology
today has made marketing to foreign publications as easy as selling to your
local newspaper.”“How do you get started?” I asked.“Start first with an email
query letter. It's the best way to approach international publications for
the first time. It saves on expensive overseas postage and often will bring
a faster reply than will an unsolicited submission of photos. Include a list
of your stock images for the photobuyer or art director.,Initially,
concentrate your efforts towards publications printed in English. Australia,
England, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa all have English language
periodicals, as do nearly all other countries in the world. In England, Off
Duty; in Singapore, Her World; in Italy, Neural; in Sweden, Scanorama; in
Germany, Visuel; in Spain, Lookout; in Costa Rica, FIPP Magazine World.“How
do you locate these and other markets?” I asked.“Finding foreign markets is
not as difficult as you might think. One good source is the International
Writer's and Artist’s Yearbook. This 600-plus page book is published in
England and lists more than 4,500 overseas markets. It is available in major
bookstores in the United States, or your library, through the Inter-Library
Loan Service.“The Willings Press Guide also published in the UK, is found
in many libraries, though it does not list rates or specific editorial
needs.”When Mike sends selections of his images, he says, “I prefer to send
thumb-nails to foreign publications. For most editorial needs, these are
sufficient. And I ship any photo packages by courier -- UPS, Fed Ex, etc.
This provides me with a method for tracking shipments by the Internet, or
through a toll-free number. Also, my experience is that if you utilize courier
service to deliver images, the client often returns this courtesy, and returns
your package the same way after use. Of course today almost everything is
digital, with electronic delivery making things a lot easier.“Opportunities
to display your photo story, essay, or individual images on your (or a
photobuyer’s) web page now present an effective marketing tool, and as more
and more international photobuyers are becoming Web-savvy, you’re able to
get your work in front of increasing numbers of buyers.”I asked Michael what
reception he gets if he submits digital submissions.“Foreign buyers who are
accustomed to dealing with English-speaking photographers, are at the
forefront when it comes to Internet literacy. You have an advantage dealing
overseas with buyers who are Internet-ready. They can view thumbnail
submissions and make their decisions in a matter of hours. You then have the
opportunity to submit a high-resolution image on-line, or send a disk to them
overnight. The digital revolution has transformed the possibilities of
foreign marketing!”NO CROSS-READERSHIP CONFLICT“Like periodicals in the
United States, nearly all overseas magazines use one-time publication
rights,” reports Mike. “This means you are free to sell and re-sell your
package and images as many times as you wish. Because there is no
cross-readership conflict among foreign publications, international
photobuyers welcome the opportunity to buy their material this
way.“International editors are accessible by email, and nearly all use faxes.
And in most cases photo editors abroad like using these modes of
communications for initial contact.“The financial return, in many cases, can
be greater with overseas publications than domestic U.S. markets. Foreign
in-flight magazines average $750 for a short text-photo package -- and most
use lots of photo essays. Publications for women pay in the $100-$200 range
per photo, while travel magazines pay $150-$250 per photo. Many international
publications will pay with a bank draft in U.S. dollars, often drawn on a
U.S. bank. Cashing checks is, therefore, no problem. Others may offer to make
a wire transfer directly into your account.”A SYSTEM“Have you refined your
working methods into some kind of a system?” I asked.“When I first began
marketing my images abroad, I came up with a system which I think works for
me,” Michael says. “I decided to send one query/stock list each week to a
different foreign photo editor. After sixty days, I had received three replies
(one sale), and had another five queries out. I continue sending a query/stock
list overseas each week. Remember, because there is no cross-readership
conflict, I can send the same photoarticle package to a couple dozen
photobuyers. If they all use it, no problem, because their readers are in
different countries, and usually in different languages.“The photobuyers are
open to this, because they know I can invest more time and talent into my
photos and photo stories when I know I can market them several times, which
results in higher quality material for them.“Today, more than 25 years after
I first began, I have some 1,000 stock lists on file with foreign markets.
During the past five months, I have had images published in England, Germany,
Italy, Spain, South Africa, the Middle East, Singapore, Hong Kong, the
Philippines, Japan, and, of course, the United States.”TEN TYPICAL OVERSEAS

Downunder and you're starting your search for cheap flights to Australia,
step back a bit to consider what you would like to see and do when you're
there. Australia is a country as large as the continental United States.
Unless you have a month or more to explore different regions, you'll be flying
to get to all the areas you want to visit. Purchasing round-trip airfare to
arrive and depart from the same city is great if you're really short on time
and planning only a one week walkabout, but if you want to see more than just
one city or area, give some thought to where you want to go and search for
cheap flights to Australia with different arrival and departure cities. For
example, if you want to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, go camping in the
Outback's Red Centre, see the endangered Tasmanian Devils in their natural
habitats, and climb Sydney's Harbour Bridge, you'll be flying to Cairns for
the Great Barrier Reef, Alice Springs to camp in the Red Centre, Hobart to
meet the Devils, and Sydney to for the adrenalin rush of climbing the
bridge.Brisbane is the international arrival airport for US travelers closest
to Cairns; international flights to and from the US also arrive and depart
from Sydney. If you search for cheap flights to Australia that arrive in
Brisbane and depart from Sydney, you can find domestic flights from Brisbane
to Cairns to Alice Springs to Hobart and finally to Sydney to soar to new
heights on the bridge climb and your flight home.Several airlines in Australia
offer passes with multiple flights and cheap airfares to keep the cost of
air travel within Australia low:Aussie AirPassBuying a Qantas Aussie AirPass
will allow you to visit several cities within Australia for the price of just
the international airfare. The AirPass provides exceptional savings for
travel to multiple destinations within Australia compared to regular coach
class airfare. The base cost of a Qantas AirPass is priced according to the
time of year you're traveling (May is least expensive, December to
mid-February have the highest fares) and the destinations (priced according
to zones) within Australia you plan to visit. Special offers with the AirPass
can feature a free flight to a featured destination. The Qantas Aussie AirPass
is only available through Qantas or a travel professional and all flights
must be booked before departing from the United States. There are a limited
number of AirPass seats on each international and domestic Qantas
flight.Virgin Blue AirPassVirgin Blue's AirPass must be purchased before
departure for Australia. At least 3 and no more than 8 domestic Virgin Blue
flights can be purchased on each AirPass. The flights are priced considerably
lower than purchasing them separately and seats on each flights are limited.
The pass is non-refundable, but tickets can be changed up to 24 hours before
departure for no fee. With a Virgin Blue AirPass you can check one piece of
luggage at no charge. This pass is a great way to see the country if you fly
to Australia on VAustralia, Delta or United.JetstarJetstar is owned by Qantas
and operates as Qantas' low-cost, no frills airline. The comfort level is
significantly lower on a Jetstar flight. Only one piece of checked luggage
is allowed without a fee and refreshments on the flights are at additional
cost.Regional AirlinesThere are several regional airlines in Australia that
fly to smaller airports and more remote destinations. These airlines tend
to have strict limitations on luggage, but will check your excess luggage
for pick-up upon your return.Exploring the South Pacific with your cheap
flights toAustraliaYou can combine your vacation to Australia with visits
to New Zealand, Tahiti or Fiji. By flying from the United States to Australia
on Qantas, you can include a non-stop flight from Sydney or Brisbane to
Auckland or Christchurch, New Zealand. Spend a few days or more exploring
New Zealand before returning to the United States on Qantas' non-stop flight
from Auckland. While Air New Zealand offers cheap flights from the United
States to Australia, all the flights stop in Auckland before continuing on
to Australia. This adds to the total flight time of your flight to
Australia.Air Tahiti Nui flies non-stop from Los Angeles to Papeete, Tahiti
daily, with connecting flights to Auckland. To include a visit to Australia,
you'll have to fly from Auckland to Sydney. This is a great way to see a lot
of the South Pacific, but a very expensive and long flight if your only goal
is to reach Australia.Air Pacific offers flights from Los Angeles to Nadi,
Fiji on most days each week. These flights can connect to an Air Pacific flight
to Sydney. Since Air Pacific has a code-share arrangement with Qantas, you
can fly on Qantas non-stop from the US in one direction, and include a stopover
in Fiji by flying on Air Pacific in the other direction.Use cheap flights
