Dear St Mary‟s Learning Community,

Last week St Mary‟s celebrated Catholic Education Week with the students doing an outstanding job.
From the start of the week the students performed in Grandparent‟s Day celebrations through to
partaking in random acts of kindness. No matter what the challenge the students took it on with
wonderful enthusiasm. The theme for the week was “We are called to be Stewards for a sustainable
future”. I can proudly say that if our St Mary‟s students continue to step up to the call, our future is in
good hands. Many of the classes performed random acts of kindness to improve or sustain our
environment. Other classes looked to social justice issues and performed random acts of kindness that
will touch the lives of many through their generosity, thoughts and prayers. It is my hope that this
year‟s theme for Catholic Education Week will resound in the minds, thoughts and actions of our
students for many years to come. Well done to all students for your outstanding Stewardship!

Stewardship is a word that we will be hearing more and more about over the coming years.
Stewardship is described as a call to action. St Mary‟s Learning Community currently has many
students, parents and teachers who take up that call to action and give of their time and talents to
perform tasks around the school. These tasks currently include tuckshop helpers, classroom helpers,
Support-A-Readers, book coverers, grounds maintainers, playground helpers, disco organisers, P&F
Members, Board Members, Care & Concern helpers and many more. It is fantastic to see many
parents, grandparents, teachers and students giving of their time and talents around the school. We
thank all of our Stewards sincerely for their efforts.

Currently, we are still looking for some parents/grandparents to assist with book covering. This task
has come about since the purchase of many new educational resources for our students. This task can
either be performed at school or in the convenience of your own home. Please contact the school
office if you are able to assist with this task.

May God bless our St Mary‟s Learning Community and its wonderful Stewards.

Mary was an ordinary Australian who worked tirelessly (Laidley Rec. Grounds), August 12 (Years 4-7)
to help others. She said, “Never see a need without Speed Soccer/Netball Sports Day
trying to do something about it.” On her feast day, we (Laidley Rec. Grounds), September 17 (Years 3-7)
celebrate the life of this remarkable woman who
showed the face of God and who this year will become
Australia‟s first saint.
