					                    Department of Accounting and Finance
                    Postgraduate Taught Programmes
Application Information and Equivalence Of Non-UK Qualifications

The Department of Accounting and Finance offers the following taught postgraduate programmes:

M.Sc. in Finance M.Sc. in Investment and Finance
M.Sc. in International Banking and Finance M.Sc. in International Accounting and Finance

The M.Sc. courses (except Accounting) that we run assume little or no knowledge of finance. Some applicants
will have studied some accounting/finance/business in the undergraduate studies. However, we do consider
applicants who have completed a variety of undergraduate programmes. Please note that if you are interested
in the M.Sc. in International Accounting and Finance you need to have completed accounting as part your
undergraduate course to be considered for this course. However, you can transfer into this course during the
completion of one of our other courses.

You can make an online application via the University website: www.strath.ac.uk. You do not need to make an
application for all courses from the Department of Accounting and Finance as the entry requirements are the
same and we allow students to change their courses within the Department during the first semester should they
wish to do so. All our courses have the same first core semester with specialisation in the second.

We would require excellent marks in classes such as statistics, maths, economics, etc.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
We ask you to provide evidence of your command of English. You should include your test scores, if available, in
the relevant section of the application form. If you receive an offer of admission, it will be subject to proof of
your score. English tests must be less than two years old at the time of application. If you have not yet taken the
test, your application can be considered in its absence, but any offer will be conditional on your achieving the
required score.

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 600 in the paper test or 100 in the
internet based test. For full information on TOEFL and testing centres worldwide, please see
      www.ets.org/toefl
IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with a minimum score of 6.5. For full details about the
British Council’s English tests, please see www.ielts.org

These are minimum requirements. You may need additional language instruction before you register to be
confident that you can participate fully in your programme. Experience has shown that students who are fully
proficient in English are best placed to make the most of all that Strathclyde has to offer, both academically and
socially. Those with residual language problems do tend to struggle to meet the required standard to qualify for
awards of degree.

REFERENCES
You should arrange the upload of two academic references in support of your application. Relevant work
experience references can also be uploaded if available but the main requirement is academic references.
References should be on appropriate letter headed paper and include the signature and stamp (where available)
of the referee.

GMAT
Although the GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test) score is not always necessary if you do have this
you should include it as it can enhance applications. You should complete all three sections of the test in
addition to your other supporting documents. Your score should be less than five years old at the time of
application. You should upload an official certificate of your score to your application For more information
about the test http://www.gmac.com/gmac/thegmat.

EQUIVALENCE
Simply having a first degree from your country may not be sufficient for admission to the University of
Strathclyde. The following list shows the minimum entry requirements we would normally expect in terms of the
qualifications offered in a number of countries. We would also consider applications from those with slightly
marginally below the entry stated below if a good GMAT score is included or there is relevant work experience. If
you cannot find your qualification below see www.naric.org.uk or go to your local British Council Office for more
information. The information below is a guideline and we would consider applications which are marginally
below these requirements.
