General Practice Requests for Assistance with RACGP Accreditation
Periodically general practices request a high degree of assistance with their RACGP Accreditation requirements, by
an experienced general practice staff member who has been through the accreditation process and can instigate
systems in a general practice. If there are any practice staff experienced in RACGP Accreditation who would be

Patient Notifications from Southern Health
In recent weeks Southern Health have conducted a trial of faxing patient notifications from Southern Health to a se-
lect group of GP’s when their patients have been admitted, discharged or die . These faxed notifications run on a 24
hour cycle and the faxes have been delivered to GPs overnight.
This trial has been very successful, hence Southern Health will now commence notifying all GP’s when a patient of
theirs meet any of the three identified triggers. It is anticipated that this system will ‘go live’ to the general GP popula-
tion on May 11.
Southern Health will continue to work on additional triggers for GP notification, the next trigger to be developed is a
birth notification. In addition work will continue on enhancing the current discharge notification to include discharge

Two Day Diabetes Update for Nurses
Diabetes Australia – Vic holds two day update sessions in Melbourne and Geelong for division 1 nurses working in
general practice to update their diabetes management skills and knowledge. The seminar covers a variety of areas
including anatomy/physiology overview, medications, monitoring, nutrition, physical activity, complications, psycho-
logical aspects, foot care, hyperglycaemia, hypoglycaemia and care systems overview. The next seminar is sched-
uled for 19 and 20 May 2011 at DA-Vic 570 Elizabeth Street Melbourne. DA-Vic member $300 – non-member $350.

Tinnitus Counselling and Management Seminars
The Tinnitus Association of Victoria provides a free telephone counselling service by experienced counsellors for
tinnitus patients and their families. The Association also conducts bi-monthly two hour seminars for people who are
newly diagnosed with tinnitus or those whose lives are adversely affected by this condition. Widely recommended by
