Triflex - Comparison vs Traditional Materials

Cold application – don’t gamble on hot works
Although Triflex has been manufacturing liquid applied membranes for almost 30 years
they can still be considered new technology when compared with traditional and sheet
applied materials.

Traditional and sheet materials often involve:
    Gas torches
    Gas burners for bitumen boilers
    Hot air guns
    Hot gas guns
The temperatures reached by gas torches can exceed 1,000˚c, and even hot air
 welding can exceed 600˚c.

Not only do these techniques involve a significant Health and Safety risk to operatives, and persons in the vicinity, they pose a real risk of fire to the
structure. The use of hot works can result in materials smouldering and subsequently igniting even after the flame has been extinguished. Many
insurers now require that a fire watch is maintained for a minimum of 1 hour after the cessation of hot works.

Fire can break out on most construction sites, and there are approximately 11 construction fires every day. These fires not only lead to potential
injuries and fatalities, but can be extremely disruptive and costly to the owners and clients.

Issues with hot works are largely to blame for the exponential increase in roofing contractors’ insurance premiums in recent years. Many contractors
have been forced out of business, or have decided that the future lies in cold, liquid applied materials based on proven technology.

Triflex – Cold, liquid applied technology
Whether you are a specifier, architect, property owner, main contractor or roofing contractor, Triflex cold, liquid applied technology offers both
insurance and Health and Safety benefits in combination with an unsurpassed track record.

The systems have the highest fire ratings available once installed, in combination with significant benefits over traditional materials.

Through avoidance of joints, seams and fixings, the weak spots are avoided and the client provided with a totally homogenous, seamless
waterproofing solution, protecting their investment and allowing accommodation of virtually all roof constructions and build ups.

Don’t gamble on hot works – don’t gamble on inferior materials – choose Triflex

Liquid applied, fully reinforced waterproofing system for roofs

UNIQUE FULLY :: Meaning that all details and potential areas of weakness can be safely incorporated within the same homogenous waterproofing
                                     membrane
     REINFORCED LIQUID
:: Through incorporation of the Triflex reinforcement with our unique resin technology, the Triflex ProTect® system provides long
APPLICATION term security for the structure through its exceptional long term resistance to regular and unforeseen movement and flexural
                                     fatigue
:: Because the system is applied as a liquid it can be shaped to suit any form, allowing even the most complex of roofs to be
                                     treated in the minimum time
:: The thixotropic liquid applied Triflex prodetail® for the interface details allows both steeply pitched and vertical surfaces to be
                                     safely incorporated into the project
:: The Triflex ProTect® system is designed to deal with the interfaces between a wide range of substrates with different coefficients
                                     of expansion without risk

SEAMLESS – WITH NO :: The seamless Triflex ProTect® avoids potential areas of weakness – one weak joint, seam or fixing can compromise the integrity of
JOINTS SEAMS OR the whole roof
:: The Triflex ProTect® system allows the roof to be completed section be section with seamless continuity
                     FIXINGS
:: Structural details can be accommodated without the requirement for mechanical fixings and terminations which can be prone to
                                     failure

ELASTOMERIC AND :: The Triflex ProTect system is elastomeric and is tested and proven resistant to both existing and unforeseen cracking

        DYNAMIC CRACK
                BRIDGING

TOTALLY COLD APPLIED :: All elements of the system are cold applied, avoiding the risks and insurance costs associated with hot works
WITH EXCEPTIONALLY :: Avoidance of hot works is becoming increasingly important as many clients and building insurers are specifying “100% cold”
                                     works for roofing
      RAPID CURE TIMES
:: Adjacent flammable materials and/or structures require no further special protection during the installation of the system
:: Time on site for the contractor is reduced with no requirement for a ‘fire watch’
:: Works can commence immediately with no waiting time for the heating of materials
:: The risk of injury to operatives from the use of hot materials / equipment is eliminated
:: With its’ exceptionally rapid cure times, areas are rapidly waterproofed, reducing time on site

:: Any later additions to the roof can be rapidly and seamlessly waterproofed
:: With exceptionally short ‘rain proof’ times, weather windows can be maximised to ensure the highest levels of productivity
:: The contractor can leave site, confident that the areas completed are totally secure

LOW TEMPERATURE :: Works can be carried out all year round and in the majority of climatic conditions, allowing the project to be completed when
CURING required, not when dictated by the temperature

HYDROLYSIS RESISTANT :: The Triflex ProTect system has excellent resistance to hydrolysis (ponding water), common and unavoidable on many flat roofs
                                            ®

:: The hydrolysis resistance properties allow specification where the structure is designed to retain water, e.g. water features,
                                     fountains and cascades

COMPATIBLE WITH THE :: The Triflex ProTect® system is compatible with and can be used to overlay almost any substrate found on the roof
MAJORITY OF :: The ability to overlay the existing construction decreases disruption to the occupier, and reduces the risk of water ingress during
                                     the works
              SUBSTRATES
:: Without the need to strip the existing roof, Health and Safety is improved, time on site is minimised, the requirement for
temporary roofing avoided, and overall costs reduced
:: Many substrates can be overlaid without a primer, reducing application processes, time and costs
:: The Triflex ProTect® is compatible with the majority of single ply membranes, including those based on CPE, EVA, PIB and PVC
VAPOUR PERMEABLE :: The Triflex ProTect® system is vapour permeable, allowing the underlying roof structure to naturally dry out over time

SUITABLE FOR ALL :: The Triflex ProTect® system provides the waterproofing solution for virtually all roof constructions and build ups, allowing
COMMON ROOF complete projects with a variety of constructions and roof build ups to be waterproofed using the same system, avoiding
CONSTRUCTIONS AND complication and split liability

Notes:
1 = Scarify, grind or lightly bead blast
2 = Scrape and sweep away contamination and clean by power washing (with or without approved detergent) as required
3 = Liquefy surface by application of heat and immediately top with quartz
4 = Rub down thoroughly with Triflex Cleaners, and abrade / grind metals and hard plastics to achieve a roughened surface
(steel must be ground or blasted to bright metal – where all rust cannot be practically removed an approved active anti-corrosion primer may be used)
5 = Lightly abrade and carry out an adhesion test
6 = The equilibrium moisture content of cementitious materials must not exceed 6% or 75% RH. Where moisture levels are in excess of these values refer to Triflex
    Pox R103
7 = Subject to testing of insitu material and approval by Triflex (UK) Limited
8 = Where large areas are to be treated, test areas to be carried out to ensure ruckling does not occur

Where there are any doubts as to adhesion, carry out an adhesion test.

Triflex D
Liquid applied, fully reinforced waterproofing system for roofs

The Triflex D cold liquid applied, fully reinforced waterproofing
system was one of the first cold liquid applied membranes to be
introduced and has been used extensively throughout the UK,
Europe and the USA. The system is based on patented resin
technology, providing a unique set of performance characteristics
which have been demonstrated over the past 3 decades.

The Triflex D system was first introduced in 1976, and carries
ETA certification. The system has been used on some of
the most challenging of roofs and has demonstrated exceptional
performance throughout this time.

Liquid applied, fully reinforced waterproofing system for roofs

UNIQUE FULLY :: Meaning that all details and potential areas of weakness can be safely incorporated within the same homogenous waterproofing
     REINFORCED LIQUID membrane
APPLICATION :: Through incorporation of the Triflex reinforcement with our unique patented resin technology, the Triflex D system provides long
term security for the structure through its exceptional long term resistance to regular and unforeseen movement and flexural
                                     fatigue
:: Because the system is applied as a liquid it can be shaped to suit any form, allowing even the most complex of roofs to be
                                     treated in the minimum time
:: The thixotropic liquid applied Triflex prodetail® for the interface details allows both steeply pitched and vertical surfaces to be
                                     safely incorporated into the project
:: The Triflex D system is designed to deal with the interfaces between a wide range of substrates with different coefficients of
                                     expansion without risk
:: As a fabric, the Triflex reinforcement provides a valuable visible thickness control during the application of the materials
:: Even ancillary materials for highly complex details incorporate unique Triflex reinforced technology

Where there are any doubts as to adhesion, carry out an adhesion test.
