Do I need a burn permit for a recreational burn or bonfire? Recreational burns require a “Special Recreational Burn
Permit” issued by the Frederick-Firestone Fire Protection District. Each event will be review and approved on a case by
case bases. Weld County Department of Public Health does allow one bonfire a year per Weld County address. A Weld
County Department of Public Health Burn Permit will be issued only for the day of the event.

Who can openly burn? Weld County Department of Public Health allows citizens in the unincorporated areas of the
county to burn agricultural ditches and fields as long as you have an approved Weld County Department of Public Health
Burn Permit. Anyone can request a Weld County Department of Public Health Burn Permit.

Where can I get a Burn Permit? Weld County Department of Public Health Burn Permit Applications for open burning
can be obtained online at: http://www.co.weld.co.us/apps/health/burn_permits or at the Weld County Department of
Public Health Offices in Greeley.

Once you complete the Weld County Department of Public Health Burn Permit Application online, an e-mail will be sent
to the e-mail address you provide on the Weld County Department of Public Health Burn Permit Application indicating
the application has been received.

Your Weld County Department of Public Health Burn Permit Application will be reviewed by Weld County Department
of Public Health personnel.

Within three business days you will receive and e-mail from the Weld County Department of Public Heath either
approving or disapproving your request for a Weld County Department of Public Burn Permit.

If you do not have access to a computer you can still obtain a Weld County Department of Public Health Burn Permit
paper application at your local fire department or fire district.

Can I openly burn in the Town of Frederick or the Town of Firestone? The Town of Frederick and the Town of
Firestone do not allow open burning in the Town limits. The only burning allowed is for ditches used for irrigation
purposes. No other burning of material including yard waste, trash or other debris is allowed.

How long is the burn permit valid? Burn permits are valid for a maximum of two weeks from the issue date. Remember
to call your local fire department and Weld County Dispatch Center on the actual day you are planning to burn even if you
have a valid permit.

How much does the Burn Permit cost? There is no cost for the Burn Permit.

What hours can I burn? Burning can begin two hours after sunrise, and must be completed no later than two hours
before sunset.

Can I burn on RED AIR ALERT DAYS? All open burns are canceled on these alert days, as well as when burning
bans are posted.

Other things to remember: Burning is not permitted when local wind speed exceeds five miles per hour, and all open
burning needs to be attended by an adult. Any burn permit can be canceled at anytime by your local fire department or fire
district.
