RULES AND REGULATIONS
The 10th Taipei Chopin Piano Competition organized by
The Frederic Chopin Foundation of Taipei will be held in Taipei, Taiwan
from February 4th to February 20th ,2005.

Preliminary Round： Feb. 4th～ Feb. 6th , 13:00～17:00 , 18:30～21:30
First Round： Feb. 14th～Feb.15th , 13:00～17:00 , 18:30～21:30
Second Round： Feb. 16th～Feb.17th , 13:00～17:00 , 18:30～21:30
Final Round： Feb. 20th 14:00～16:30 , 19:30～22:00

1、The competition is open to all citizens of Taiwan (including those who were born in
overseas), born between 1977 and 1988.
2、Non Taiwanese citizens may accepted(open competition),however,besides the
regular cash prizes,other benefit from the organizer such as travelling and housing
expenses to participate in the 15th,International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in
Warsaw,Poland in October, 2005 and masterclasses are not applicable.
V NUMBERS OF ENTRY IN EACH ROUND
1、Preliminary round：25 to 30 competitors will be admitted to the First Round.
2、First round：12 to 15 competitors will be admitted to the Second Round.
3、Second round：6 to 8 competitors will be admitted to the Final Round.
4、Final round：There will be 3 to 5 winners.
1、All of the winners will receive NTD60,000.
2、All of the winners (Finalist as well)will be sponsored by the Frederic Chopin
Foundation of Taipei to attend the Master classes following the competition.
3、The Frederic Chopin Foundation of Taipei will provide the round trip International
Airfare and hotel in Warsaw to participate in the 15th Frederic Chopin Piano
Competition in Warsaw, Poland in October, 2005
1、The judging committee will be composed of the well known national and international
musicians. The judging committee will adhere to the guidelines followed by international
music competitions in making its decisions. There will be an advisory committee composed
of three judges.
2、The production rights of the performances (including those from the first, second, and
final stages, as well as those from the awards ceremony) belong to the organizer of the
event, The Frederic Chopin Foundation of Taipei. Competitors should not expect
monetary compensation of any kind if their performances are used for any purposes that
the sponsor wishes to use them for, including:
(a)Radio or television broadcast.
(b)Mixing and/or recording of tapes, CD,VCD,DVD,videotape, etc.
(c)Duplication of the tapes,CD,VCD,DVD,videotape, etc.
(d)The selling and distribution of these items or photographs.
VIII APPLICATION AND REGISTRATION
1、Application forms may be obtained from The Frederic Chopin Foundation of Taipei or
from the music department of various universities and music department of high schools
Or from the music centers of the different cities.
2、Application forms must be submitted with the following documents:
(a)A photocopy of birth certificate.
(b)Three copies of recent photograph (passport size).
(c)Application fee NTD3,500.
3、Application forms must be received by the Competition Committee c/o The Frederic
Chopin Foundation of Taipei, ＃449 11F, Jen Ai Road Sec 4, Taipei Taiwan, before
December 15, 2004 (post mark on this date is accepted)

4、Taiwanese applicants who are studying or living overseas and inconvenient to extend their
stay in Taiwan between the preliminary and the 1st round(there is 7-days interval)may
enclose their own recording of the preliminary-round repertoire recorded in DVD or VCD
together with the application forms.Applicant who past the preliminary round by DVD or VCD
will be notify by the secretariat before January 15,2005,however must be present in Taipei
from the 1st round,and those applicants must register at the secretariat one day earlier.This
also applies to non-Taiwanese applicants.
5、Within 40 days after application closed ,the competition committee will send notice of time
and place of registration to each applicant.
1、 Choose one from the four Scherzi or three Impromptus (except op.66) or Variation in B flat
2、Choose one of following Waltzes:
a. in E flat major op.18
b. in A flat major op. 34 no.1
c. in F major op.34.no.3
d. in A flat major op.42
e. in A flat major op.64 no.3
3、Choose one of the following Nocturnes:
a. in B major op.9 no.3
b. in D flat major op. 27 no.2
c. in G major op. 37 no.2
d. in c minor op.48 no1
e. in f sharp minor op.48.no.2
f. in E flat major op.55.no.2
i. in B major op.62 no.1
j. in E major op.62 no.2
4、Choose one Etude from op.10(except No.3,6,9) or op.25(except No.1,2,3,7,8,9)
1、 Choose one Etude from op.10 (except No.3,6,9) or op.25 (except No.1,2,3,7,8,9 )
(Etude played in Preliminary round must not be played again.)
2、Choose one of the following Polonaises:
a. Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante op.22
b. Polonaise in f-sharp minor op.44
c. Polonaise in A-flat major op.53
d. Polonaise-Fantasia in A-flat major op.61
3、Choose one from four Ballades or Barcarolle in F-sharp major op.60 or Fantasia in f minor
1、Choose one full cycle from the following Mazurkas: Opus 17, 24, 30, 41, 50, 56, 59
2、Choose one Sonata in b-flat minor op.35 or Sonata in b minor op.58
Choose one Concerto in e minor op.11 or Concerto in f minor op.21
All works performed during the competition must be played by memory and without repeats
The Taipei Chopin Piano Competition has joined the Alink-Argerich Foundation since 2004.
