Relief Project Worker Senior Project Worker
East Belfast Mission seeks to serve the community of the Newtownards Road/
Ballymacarrett district of east Belfast. It is part of the Methodist Church in Ireland
and is headed by the Superintendent of the church. Forty full and part-time staff
currently work for the Mission as well as approximately 40 volunteers in EBM’s
social care and training services, making us one of the largest employers in this part of
Belfast. Our provision includes:
Hosford House, a 22 bed hostel for people who are homeless;
Mission Cafe, including a meals on wheels service;
Stepping Stone and Job Bridge, job skills training and the New Deal
Second-hand furniture shop;
Nearly-new clothes shop;
The headquarters of EBM are at 239 Newtownards Road, Belfast, BT4 1AF with
adequate car parking at the rear. Some staff are based at other locations but all are
within the East Belfast area. This post is based at Hosford House which is at the
headquarters location. Any travelling expenses related to journeys necessary for the
post will be met by EBM.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Relief staff will report directly to the Senior Project Workers of Hosford House and
will work as part of the staff team. The post holder will contribute to the general care
and welfare of the service users under the direction and supervision of the Project
To provide shift cover for holidays, FT staff training/meetings and for sickness
at short notice.
To assist and support the Project Workers in ensuring the smooth running of
Helping to create a homely atmosphere within the hostel which encourages the
service users to be as independent as possible.
Contribute appropriately to the care and safety of service users of Hosford
Participate in involving service users in recreational, social & life skills
To control access to the hostel.
To ensure that the hostel is well maintained and tidy in cooperation with
service users and staff.
Maintaining a record of the events that take place during the shift.
Report to project staff any untoward incidents, e.g. falls, accidents, complaints
Adhere to the ethos and Code of Conduct of Hosford House on all matters.
Ensure the procedures of the Management Committee are adhered to in
a) Health and Safety Regulations
b) Fire Prevention.
To continue to ask questions that help staff to provide an excellent service.
