Some architects therefore claim that through Košice runs the architectonic frontier between Eastern and Western Medieval Europe. The Cathedral also provides home to a technical curiosity – the only Gothic double spiral-staircase in Europe. • The oldest Slovak transportation service was established in Košice in 1891. Starting with a horse tram, the company reached full electrification in 1914. Nowadays a commemorating passenger wagon is drawn by a horse each summer on the otherwise pedestrian main street. • The Košice International Peace Marathon is the oldest annual marathon race in Europe (since 1924).
