Hello BWE Swim Fans:
Let’s get this party started !!! The BWE Dolphins 2011 season is right around the corner !
I am looking forward to another great year as your team representative ! I have really
enjoyed getting to know all of our swimmers over the last two years and would love to
meet some new swimmers this year ! Our 2010 Dolphins had a great year with lots of
familiar faces and some great new swimmers as well ! As always, thanks to all of my
super helpful parents and volunteers ! Speaking of volunteers, Megan Young has decided
to step down as Volunteer Coordinator. Megan has been a great asset to our “team” and
she will be missed ! If anyone is interested in filling her spot, please contact me as soon
as possible. The position is really only time-consuming at the start of the season, and
Megan has graciously agreed to help “the newbie” !
Attached is a LOT of information about our upcoming season! Please read all of the
information carefully, paying close attention to the dates ! I can’t wait to start the summer
with our 2011 Dolphins !
SWIM SUITS: If you need a new suit this year, you have a couple of options. The easiest
way is to go to South Park Swim and Tennis Club, (where we went last year), on May 7
from 3:00-5:00. You can try-on and purchase your suit then. They will also have available
a variety of sale options (goggles, practice suits, bungee cords etc.) that you can buy as
well. If you can’t make that date, you can go to Mecklenburg Aquatic Club (MAC) at 9850
Providence Road. If you can’t make it out to MAC and you know the size of suit that you
need you can call and order it over the phone (704-846-5335, ext. 101 and 102).
MEET SCHEDULE: Once again, the league has done its best to try to spread out the
season a bit and still be finished before July 4th. In order to accomplish this we will swim
our first meet on June 4th (Saturday) and our last regular meet on June 23 (Thursday).
Saturday morning meets are back ! We will have three; June 4, 11, and 18. The 11 th and
the 18th are home meets. We will also have one weeknight meet before school is officially
out, (June 9th). We will have an earlier start time for that meet, in order to accommodate
the little ones who still need to get to bed on time ! The season schedule is on the
attached pages, and you can also find it on the website.
SWIM TEAM SIGN-UPS: May 3rd from 4:00-6:00 at the pool ! Please note: we have
raised our registration dues this year for the first time in a while. The new rate is $70.00
per swimmer with the usual sibling discount. Also new this year, every registered swimmer
will be given a free team t-shirt ! There will be a place on the registration form to include
your child’s shirt size. Lastly, don’t forget to bring your calendars with you so that you can
sign up for your favorite volunteer spot ! See you there !
FIRST PRACTICE: May 16th! Get ready!
PRACTICE TIMES: The Shrimpers will practice from 4:00-4:45 until June 13 in order to
give them the most “sun time” during the day (the shallow end gets shade first and
therefore gets colder first). The 10 and under swimmers will practice from 4:30-5:30, and
the 11 and older swimmers will practice from 5:30-6:30. This will be the schedule from
May 16 thru June 10, when we switch to morning practices. At that point, the shrimpers
will swim from 9:00-9:45, the 10-year-old and under swimmers will practice from 9:00-
10:00 and the 11-year-old and older swimmers will practice from 10:00-11:00.
PARENT MEETING: May 26th at 5:00 p.m. in the shelter. This is mandatory for all
parents of 10 and under swimmers AND parents of new swimmers to BWE. Please plan
on attending !
VOLUNTEERING AT MEETS: We love to have fun at BWE, and we can even do it while
we’re working at a meet! We will be using the same system as last year with our volunteer
sign-ups. You will be given an opportunity to sign up for volunteer assignments at
registration and during the first week of practice. After that, we will begin assigning
positions. Remember that you are expected to work at every meet that your child is
swimming in. This means that if your child is swimming, you will need to plan on filling a
position for half of that meet. We will make every effort to help accommodate special
concerns, i.e. you only have shrimpers on the team, etc., but you may still have to work a
time that may not be your first choice. If you can’t work at a meet in which your child is
swimming, it will be your responsibility to find a replacement, and we’ll provide everyone
with a list of substitutes.
Please feel free to call me if you have questions about this. I will be happy to discuss this
with you to work out conflicts/issues that you might have!
COACHES: Our 2011 coaching staff will include some familiar faces and a couple of new
friends ! You can read all about them on the following page and meet them all in person
very soon ! We are very fortunate to have this great group of young people ! I know they
are all looking forward to meeting you and working with your children !
I’m really looking forward to seeing all of our swimmers’ smiling faces and a great 2010
season! Attached you will find; a meet schedule, a list of important dates, and a
description of the volunteer positions available. These should help facilitate the
registration process. In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions or
concerns. My contact information is listed below.
See you all on April 27th !
