                                            Proposal

Title of Proposal: Promethean Boards for Monterey Ridge Teachers
TLC points requested: Option A: 10 points or Option B: 20 points
(A 10 point TLC is a minimum of 40 hours with at least half of the hours outside the contract day. A 20 point TLC is
a minimum of 80 hours with at least half of the hours
outside the contract day.)

Proposal Description (2-3 sentences for publishing to prospective participants):
Teachers at Monterey Ridge who are having a Promethean Board installed in their classrooms in the
next few months will learn about the resources and support that are available (Promethean Planet, on-
line courses, PUSD Promethean SIG); and acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively
create and implement lessons utilizing the Activstudio software and Promethean Board in their
classrooms. The goal is to promote collaborative learning and sharing of best practice between
Teachers at MRES, and develop materials for wider access / distribution across the school and district.

(No hours may be counted for any TLC until the proposal has been approved by the Professional Development
Advisory Board.)

    Meet as a group 3 times (between August and November ’09) to share continued
       individual learnings through demonstration of strategies and discuss best practices
    Participate in LP – SIG (launched Dec. 08) - a professional community of Promethean
       Board users in PUSD
    Continue training by completion of Level 1: Advanced Skill Training or additional
       advanced training through: Activtips Videos, communication with Promethean Board
       Mentors on Promethean Planet Forum, Activexpressions, or another course on the
       Promethean Learning Site.

                  Professional Growth Activities – Acquisition of New Learning
As evidence of implementation, each participant is required to maintain a portfolio of documentation regarding
completion of her/his new learning, impact on student learning and reflection activities. This portfolio will be
reviewed by the facilitator at the end of the TLC. Examples of documentation: time logs, meeting notes, discussion
group notes, lesson plans, student work samples, journals, etc.


State what new learning participant(s) will acquire through this proposal, including the
timeline and/or hours anticipated:
Option A:
        Attend & participate in 6 workshops (Action Plan Outline attached)
         At each workshop various tools, techniques, and best practices using the Promethean Board
         will be demonstrated. Teachers will share a minimum of 5 flipcharts they create, one after each
         training, at subsequent workshops, to demonstrate newly acquired skills, and will have the
         opportunity to ask for support / contributions for on-going projects.
        Complete the Foundation Skills Level 1 (Foundation Skills Certificate) Online Course for
         ActivStudio Software (or ActivPrimary) at Promethean Learning on-line,
         http://prometheanlearning.com/ This course is free and offers an assessment at the end of
         each session as well as an overall assessment. Teachers will receive a certificate of
         completion when all modules are completed at 100% pass rate (10 modules)

Option B: All of the above and:
     Completion of Level 1 (Advanced Skills Certificate Level): Advanced Skill Training OR similar
        course on Promethean Learning site
     Participate in Promethean Planet Forum to collaborate with Promethean users world wide;
        Share best practices in this professional community
     Collaborate and share best practices and materials in the Poway user community (LP – SIG)
     Explore new ideas in formative assessment in relation to student achievement for use with new
        technology – Activotes or Activexpressions (hand held response systems) – and implement in
        classroom (Evidenced by quiz results saved in Excel)

                                  Classroom Implementation Activities
The impact of the newly acquired learning of TLC participants on student learning is critical to this section

Option A:
    Create and deliver a minimum of 5 flipcharts which utilize the skills acquired through
       training. Lessons will concentrate on the use of student interactive participation with
       the technology offered
    Meet and collaborate with other teachers to develop, evaluate, and modify lessons to
       determine best practice

Option B: All of the above AND:
    Create, implement, and track 5 additional lessons with emphasis on formative
       assessment in core curricular areas
    Meet and collaborate with other teacher users via 3 group meetings, the Promethean
       Planet Forum, and Poway SIG to determine best practices in formative assessments
       using Promethean technology

                                            Reflection Activities

     Keep a log of impact of lessons on student learning; maintain a portfolio of lessons,
        student work, postings on forums, interactions with other users
     Write a one page synopsis of findings after each collaborative session
     Write a final one page summary of the impact of Promethean Board technology on the
        learning of both the teacher and the students; outline next steps for your use of this
        technology in your classroom
     Complete on-line survey of TLC’s effectiveness (both options) for PDAB

                                               Budget Request

If you anticipate needing fiscal support for the implementation of your proposal, please list
prospective needs and estimated costs. TLC will fund up to 50% of site based TLC’s, not to
exceed $500. TLC will fund 100% of district wide proposals, not to exceed $500.
