The Immigrant
The Journey to America
A True Story
The Immigrant
In 1975, Victor and Marina were
forced to change their entire life
plan due to the civil war in
Lebanon. Instead of pursuing their
goals of obtaining college degrees,
which they had worked so hard
for, they had to endure many
hardships.
The Immigrant
Their wedding was interrupted by
bomb shells and bullets, which
resulted in having to postpone their
honeymoon for months later. Their
wedding night was spent in a
shelter with 200 other people of
various religious beliefs.
The Immigrant
They had to go through sniper
attacks, barricades made of
dead bodies controlled by
different fighting factions.
The Immigrant
They had to find a way out of the
country by bribing various armed
forces, while sharing a 12 person
yacht with 50 people carrying all
the valuables they could, to cross
the Mediterranean towards
Cyprus.
The Immigrant
The journey consisted of a 117 mile
- 3 hour trip that took 14 hours, all
the while being exposed to the
elements and floating only few
inches above water; encountering
pirates, fear, sea sickness, and
nervousness in hopes of avoiding
death or capture.
The Immigrant
Not only was it difficult to travel
under those conditions, but they
also had to put up with many
barriers such as: language,
immigration, employment,
funds and
The Immigrant
they had to deal with many
uncertainties such as: which
country will ultimately accept them,
what kind of people they will have
to deal with and encounter, what
kind of jobs they will be able to
find,
The Immigrant
what was happening to the family
members they had left behind,
where will each one of them end
up, and if they will ever see their
families again.
It was hell on earth times ten.
The Immigrant
It takes some gull and some
brain and a little bit of luck to
pull through this tragedy and
start a new life. Luckily they
will, but, as you can imagine,
it won’t be easy.
The Immigrant
In the end they make it to
America.

Questions and Answers
What is the purpose of writing the book?
The purpose of writing this book is to describe the reality
of lives affected by civil war and how fast and furious
people’s lives can change by one incident. The Lebanese
civil war started in 1975, it is still ongoing. Thousands of
people have died; millions of dreams have been
shattered.
It is also to demonstrate that in a civil war bullets do not
discriminate between Christians or Muslims, or
Armenians and Assyrians; they don’t care whether you
are a Liberal or a Conservative, as you will see in the
book many Christian bullets killed Christians, and many
Muslim bullets killed Muslims, and so forth.

Questions and Answers
Why should I “back” your book?
Thank you for considering “backing” the
publishing of this book. The book has the
potential of attracting many readers for its
content. Also, my intent is to advertise the book
through my contacts to movie directors and
producers. The feedback so far has been
positive. As a “backer” of the book you will be
part of a great project aside from the nice
rewards I have tried to offer.
