Programming & Software Development Pathway –

Computer Programmer – This major prepares students to develop and write computer
programs to store, locate and retrieve specific data. Students implement and write programs
using Java and/or other programming languages. They effectively use the Unified Modeling
Language (UML) and software patterns to improve software development. Computer-Aided
Software Engineering (CASE) tools are also used. Students learn to analyze and test software.
Students gain skills required for the Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA) certification.

Enterprise Developer – This major prepares students to research, design, develop and test
systems-level software. Students implement and write programs using Java, Visual Basic and/or
other dynamic programming languages to create event-driven programs. They use the Unified
Modeling Language (UML) and software patterns to improve software development along with
Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools. Students learn to analyze and test
software to maximize productivity through sound, reliable and repeatable processes. Students
gain skills required for the the Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA) certification.

Database Programmer – This program prepares students to coordinate changes, test and
implement computer databases. Students implement and write programs using Java and/or other
programming languages. They apply data modeling concepts as they develop and perform
relational database queries using SQL concepts. They use the Unified Modeling Language
(UML) along with Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools to improve and test
software development. Students gain skills required for the Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA)
and Oracle certifications.

Systems Analyst – This major prepares students to analyze data processing problems to
automate or improve existing systems. Systems analysts may review computer system
capabilities and may analyze or recommend commercially available software. Students
implement and write programs using Java and/or other programming languages. They use
Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools to
improve and test software development. Students learn to manage projects that meet deadlines,
stay within a budget, and develop communication skills to work effectively with co-workers and
business contacts. Students gain skills required for the Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA) and
CompTIA Project+ certifications.

Project Manager – This major prepares students to manage programming and software
development projects that meet deadlines, stay within a budget, and develop communication
skills to work effectively with co-workers and business contacts. Students implement and write
programs using Java and/or other programming languages. They use Unified Modeling
Language (UML) and Computer-Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools to improve and test
software development. Students use software configuration management tools and techniques to
maximize productivity with sound, reliable and repeatable processes. Students gain skills
required for the Sun Certified Java Associate (SCJA) and CompTIA Project+ certifications.
