1. Which type of presentation do I select?
   When you launch Microsoft PowerPoint the Project Gallery will automatically open.
   There are two basic presentation formats: Presentations and PowerPoint Presentation.
   Choose the presentation that best suits your needs.

   Presentations (i.e., Content and Designs located in the left-hand column)
      • Click on Content and Designs to view the different backgrounds.
      • The background is created for you.
      • Fonts are pre-selected to match the background.
      • Interesting graphics appear on each slide

   PowerPoint Presentation
      • It is a blank presentation.
      • You create the background.
      • You select the fonts.
      • You design the graphics for each slide.


2. Once in the new slide box, which type of slide do I choose?
   There is a picture of each available slide. Click on the slide you want to use and either
   double click on it or hit the OK button.

   Auto Layout Options (e.g., Title Slide, Bulleted List, or 2 Column Text)
      • The slide contains text and graphic boxes.
      • Once in the slide, you click the provided boxes to add words and pictures.

   Blank Slide
      • It is a blank white slide.
      • You create the text and graphic boxes.


3. How do I add text to the slide?

   Auto Layout Options (e.g., Title Slide, Bulleted List, or 2 Column Text)
      • Read the slide for directions.
      • Simply click inside the box and type.

   Blank Presentation
      • Go to Insert and select Text Box. Your cursor will change from an arrow into an
         uppercase letter A.
      • Click the mouse and hold the button down with your finger.
      • Continue to hold the button and drag the mouse to create a text box.
      • Click inside the box and type.
      • If you accidentally click outside the box, you will need to start over.

4. How do I insert another slide?
   There are several ways to add a new slide to the presentation. Each one will bring you to
   the New Slide Box.
       • Option 1: Go to Insert and select New Slide.

       •   Option 2: On the toolbar, click on this icon.

       •   Option 3: Press the Control key and the letter M together.


5. How do I change the color of the text?

   First, you must tell the computer what text or words to change.
       • Option 1: Click on the outside of the text box. If you click inside the text box, the
           blinking cursor will appear. You do not want to see the blinking cursor.
       • Option 2: Highlight the words you want to change with the mouse.

   Second, change the text color.
      • Option 1: Go to Format and select Font. This box enables you to change the font
         style, size, and color.
      • Option 2: On the toolbar, click on the picture of the underlined letter A.


6. How do I add clip art or pictures to a slide?

   Auto Layout Options (e.g., Title Slide, Bulleted List, or 2 Column Text)
      • Go to Insert and select New Slide.
      • Look for slides named Text & Clip Art. The slides contain the picture of a pencil
         and an eraser.
      • Click on the slide you want to use.
      • Once in the slide, read the directions. Double click on the box to add clip art.


   Blank Presentation
      • Place your mouse over the word Insert. Click on Insert and hold the mouse button
         down with your finger.
      • Continue to hold the mouse button with your finger and follow the next two steps.
         If you accidentally let go of the mouse, you will need to start over.
      • Select Picture.
      • Choose Clip Art from the list that appears to the right of the word Picture.

   Toolbars
      • On the toolbar, click on this icon.

7. How do I add animation and sound to my presentation?
   There are two ways to add animation to your slide: Preset Animation and Custom
   Animation.

   Preset Animation
      • Select the text box or clip art to animate. Remember to click on the outside of the
          text box. If you click inside the text box, the blinking cursor will appear. You do
          not want to see the blinking cursor.
      • Place your mouse over the word Slide Show. Click on SlideShow and hold the
          mouse button down with your finger.
      • Continue to hold the mouse button with your finger and follow the next two steps.
          If you accidentally let go of the mouse, you will need to start over.
      • Select Animations and choose one of the options from the list (e.g., Fly In,
          Camera, Dissolve).


   Custom Animation
   This box will enable you to change the timing, effects, and sound.

       •   Go to Slide Show and select Animations. Choose Custom from the list of options
           to the right of the word Animation.
       •   Click on the Animate box. The Animate box lists each item on the slide-- title,
           text, and object. Click on an item and notice how it becomes selected in the
           Preview box. The Preview box is located below the Animate Box and contains a
           miniature version of the slide.
       •   Select the item you want to animate.
       •   Click on the Effects tab.
       •   To animate the item, click on the box marked No Effect. Choose one of the
           options (e.g., Blinds, Checkerboard, Dissolve).
       •   After setting the animation, you can select a sound. Click on the box marked No
           Sound. Choose one of the sound options (e.g., Camera, Clapping, Laser).
       •   As you animate items, they move into the Order and Timing section. To view the
           animated items simply click on the Order and Timing tab.
       •   Return to the Animate box and repeat the process for each item.
       •   When you are finished, click OK.


8. How can I preview the animated slide?
   There are two options: Custom Preview and Animation Preview.

   Custom Animation
      • Go to Slide Show, Animation and select Custom.
      • Click the Play button; it located underneath the Preview box.

   Animation Preview
      • Go to Slide Show and select Animation Preview. The Animation Preview box
        will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Click on the box to view
        the slide’s animated features.


9. How can I delete a slide, change the order, or add interesting transitions between the
   slides? You can delete a slide, change the order, or add interesting transitions between the
   slides in the Slide Sorter. Go to View and select Slide Sorter. To exit Slide Sorter, simply
   double click on a slide.

   Delete a Slide
   • Option 1: Click on the slide you want to delete. Go to Edit and select Cut.
   • Option 2: Click on the slide you want to delete. Press the  key and the letter X
      together.
   • Option 3: Click on the slide you want to delete. Hit the Delete button on the
      keyboard.

   Change the Slide Order
   • Click on the slide you want to move and hold the mouse button down with your
     finger. Drag the slide to a new place in the presentation.

   Transitions
   • Click on a slide.
   • To add a transition, click on the box marked No Transition. Choose one of the options
      (e.g., Box In, Cover Up, Random Transition).


10. How can I view my slide presentation?
    • Go to Slide Show and select View Show.
    • Click through each slide.
    • To exit the slide show, hit the Esc button on the keyboard.


11. How can I make the slide presentation run by itself?
    • Go to Slide Show and select Rehearse Timings.
    • A small timer will appear in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
    • Click through your slide show. Go slowly! There should be enough time for someone
      to read each slide.
    • At the end of the presentation the computer will ask you two questions. The first
      question is, “The total time for the slide show was X seconds. Do you want to record
      the new timings and use them when you view the slide show?” To save the timings,
      click Yes.
    • The second question is, “Do you want to review the timing in slide sorter view?”
      Click Yes to go to Slide Sorter. Click No to return to the slide view.
    • To view the presentation, go to Slide Show and select View Show.
