                                                     The acquisition is in 2 parts:
                                                      - Gray code ( triangulation)
                                                      - Fringes ( phase)




   Gray Code :
   A progressive sequence of black and white lines
   uses triangulation principal and give the
   absolute values of lines without ambiguities,
   while fringes are shifted inside the narrowest
   projected line to compute point distance with
   the highest accuracy.

   Performances are defined by triangulation angle, distance
   between projector and camera, and objectives

          - Triangulation angle is 30°
          - Distance between camera and projector is minimum
          - 3 sets of objectives for HE-25, HE-50, HE-100 fields of
          view
          - Working distance 160 mm
   - Global measurements: FaceSCAN III-EO
          - Triangulation angle is 20° (minimize shadowing effects)

    Measuring models in vivo can lead to errors due to the
    movement of the model during the measurement acquisition.
    Movements produce phase errors which lead to ondulatory
    stripes on the 3D result.
    These phase errors are controlled and corrected by specific
    algorithms.
    Of course the algorithms we use have got some limits and
    therefore only reasonable phase errors due to small
    movements can be corrected.
    With the visioFACE measurement bench, by maintaining the
    model, larger movements are avoided.                          3D result with errors due to movement
    Number of valid points can also be computed and warn the
    user if too much points in the field for view are missing.
    Both treatment control a red light sign if limits are
    unacceptable.

   In order to enhance the quality control of the measurement and of
   the 3D alignment, the following new controls will be implemented :
   - Stability of the live image : The system will wait until the model is
   stable to launch the acquisition measurement.
   - Focus of the live image : Warning if the surface of interest is out
   of focus.
   - Accuracy of the alignment : RMS deviation between Tn and T0 3D
   results.

     In order to perform a study, we have organized it by needs
    or application ( figure 1), because we needed to handle each
    project with different variables. But for all, the project flow is
    the same from initializing to evaluation of the data.
     - Some requires different sensors configuration
     - They require different methods for measurement
    (alignment mask, sensor orientation, in vivo or in vitro, etc.)
     - Different processing are involved with different filters, local
    or global fine alignment, areas for evaluation
     - Evaluation processes have to be adapted to the product
    effect, and they all are available.
     - Each project is defined by a parameter file which contains
    all variables and project definition and can be accessible only
    on expert mode

    To resume project flow is divided in 3 steps:
                 - Acquisition
                 - Processing
                 - Evaluation
    While:
                 - Init project
                 - init parameters
    Define the project perimeter

            Processing suppose that all measurements has been
           performed successfully at all times. Each
           measurement at T0 (baseline) has produced a panelist
           which will be processed automatically.
              Alignment of all measurement for each model based
           on local or global geometry
              Extraction of the area of interest
              Polynomial fit for shape removal ( flattening)
              Saving processed data in SDF format

           Evaluation propose a variety of calculations either
          statistic, or per object. Statistics calculations are
          performed automatically, while object oriented
          evaluation are often interactive. The actual
          evaluation are:
             Low pass, high pass 3D filter of data before
          calculations
           2D roughness on star profiles, vertical or
          horizontal profiles
             3D roughness
             3D detection of all objects by using threshold
          from a mean plane and compute surface and
          volume (negative or positive)
             3D detection of single objects by using threshold
          from a mean plane and compute surface, volume,
          mean and max depth, circumference (negative or
          positive objects)
             3D Difference between surfaces visualized in
          pseudo color with deviation statistics
             Point comparison for local deviation
             sections through 3D surfaces

       From replicas or in vivo measurement, we have
      developed specific alignment mask to overlay with
      the live image for fine visual positioning. Sensor is
      used in HE-25 configuration and is mounted on
      the visioface bench on vertical position or on a
      vertical statif for replicas, or on a tripod for any
      body location.
         No geometry alignment is performed

     Wrinkles measurement are mostly measure on the
    face and require our visioface bench for left and right
    crowfeet region, front, or peri-oral region. The sensor
    is in HE-50 configuration and is oriented horizontal
    but can be tilted to adapt to the peri oral region.
    Principal evaluation are:
       geometry alignment is performed
       light or medium filtering
       2D vertical roughness profiles
       3D roughness
       3D detection for global surface and volume of
    objects
       3D detection of single objects

      Eye bag measurement require our visioface
      bench for left and right region. The sensor is
      in HE-100 configuration and is oriented
      vertical, camera on top, projector bottom.
      Alignment mask is a cross with half a circle to
      center the eye bag. Extraction of the eye bag
      region is automatic
      Principal evaluation are:
         Local geometry alignment is performed
         High filtering
         2D vertical roughness profiles
        3D detection for surface and volume
         3D Difference in pseudo color

         Lips fine lines can be measure on our
        visioface bench as well. The sensor is in
        HE-100 configuration and is oriented
        horizontal. A cross with a small rectangle is
        position on the lower lip as an alignment
        mask
        Principal evaluation are:
           geometry alignment is performed
           light or medium filtering
           2D horizontal roughness profiles
           3D roughness

        For volume measurement we collaborate
        with Orion Concept on a methodology, and
        data are in process.

        Cellulite requires a tripod system with vertical
       and horizontal adjustment. The sensor is in HE-
       100 configuration and is oriented vertical.

       on local skin texture

          high filtering
          3D detection for surface and volume
          3D waviness

        FaceScan solution is adapted to measure
       Face and part of the body using the
       visioface bench for most of them.
       Morphology measurement requires much
       more care on the model position than for
       local measurement.
       Therefore the contribution of the bench is
       even more needed as it provide the state
       of the art.
       Eotech has developed unique method for
       measuring cosmetic effect and
       dermatologist treatment.

        The acquisition requires a precise
       positioning of the body and more of the
       head itself. The laser line makes it for the
       height while the cross set the lateral
       position.
          Sensors are fixed to the optimum
       distance and angle to the head
          They have been previously align and
       matched by index marks
          Brightness in black and white as well as
       color is performed
          Acquisition can be done

        Processing provide automatic action to make a
       complete 3D mesh of the model:
          Filtering
          Data cleaning ( removing outliers and non
       connected areas)
          Merging the 2 sides
          Filling holes
          Compression of data if needed

        Evaluation starts from 2 types of information
          3D data
          texture (color or others)
       From these information we can compute
       different parameters:
          3D difference ( comparison between
       measurements)
          Dimensional measurement
          Volume
          Curvature or sections
       Most of these evaluation requires that all
       measurement are matched in the same
       reference space or coordinates
          Local alignment for comparison or sections
          Same plane for volume
          Same points for dimensional

        3D difference provide the deviation between 2
       surfaces within a pre-defined distance and
       normal to each point.
          Result is shown in pseudo color within the

        Sections provide joined point differences from
       the intersection with a pre-define plane
         Plane definition from 3 points, or surface fit
         Intersection between the plane and all data

        Oval is a 3D difference limited to a predefined
       zone instead of a global approach. This allows to

        Comparison between 2 measurements gives the
       change in morphology but not the characteristic
       of it. Having reference which can be used for all
       type of morphology can produce some other

       - Combine microscopy and fringe projection
       - Use the same algorithm than interferometry

       - Use objectives with magnification from 1 to 5X
       for field of view from 1.2 to 8 mm with lateral
       resolution between 1 to 5 m ( preliminary!)
       -Vertical range limited by the depth of focus (
       ~0.5 à 2 mm),
       - Resolution ~0.1 m
       - Acquisition time: a few seconds
