FacIR (FacultativeIR Data for Reserving)
General Reinsurance, CT, USA July 2004 – Nov 2004
General Reinsurance is in the business of Reinsurance. The project FacIR (Facultative Data for
Reserving) is focused on migrating the data from the Mainframe DB2 to the Sybase DB. Presently
Data Warehouse data and processes provide the ability for the Actuarial Department to map
Portfolio premium and losses to IBNR reserve cells and to supply IBNR reserves by contract. This
project is a natural extension of these processes whereby IR data will be subject to the same
processes and procedures as are Portfolio data. This will make the Data Warehouse the sole
"database record" which will permit one source of gross data for financial reporting (Treasurers and
Actuarial), the same single source of gross data for experience analysis (showing an account's
portfolio and IR experience), and should permit the retirement of old systems and reports

display this data in a way that is useful to its clients. The ITA project involves Analyzing, designing,
building, testing and implementing various interfaces and components of On-Order and Sales part
of proposed Inventory Tracking Application.

The ITA Sales, which has been implemented in the first phase, takes care of the sales of
component items and not the source item when it is not meant to be sold. The second phase is
about having a fake sale for the source item, which has been ordered and sold, in the form of
component item. This would be helpful to have real time data of the source item as and when the
component item is being sold. Analysis is being done to find the impact on outbound systems using
the Sales History DB, which gets one of its feeds from the fake sales.
