What You Will Learn & Why You Should Attend:
Learn trial skills from the experts. Lectures about, and demonstrations of, each trial component by some of the best jurists and trial
lawyers in the country. Guest speaker Terence F. MacCarthy has been the Executive Director of the Federal Defender Program in the United
States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois for over forty years. The office is frequently mentioned as being one of the best defender
offices in the country. In addition to his overall administrative responsibilities, Mr. MacCarthy continues to personally try cases and to train and
assist his staff of twenty attorneys. Mr. MacCarthy has been active principally in the field of trial practice, in both criminal and civil matters. He
has argued in the United States Supreme Court. MacCarthy, one of the nation’s most sought-after speakers at continuing legal education
programs, has lectured in all 50 states and over a dozen foreign countries. In August, 2007 his long-awaited book “MacCarthy on Cross-
Examination” was published by the American Bar Association. In February, 2008 NACDL honored him with its 2008 Champion of Justice Award.
MacCarthy is on the permanent faculty of the National Criminal Defense College, the Western Trial Advocacy Institute, the University of
Virginia Trial Advocacy Institute and the Northwestern Law School Short Course. Receive a copy of “Anatomy of a Trial” a primer on the
conduct of a trial for young lawyers by Paul Mark Sandler, faculty member and program co-chair for this event. Network and have your ques-
tions answered by the experts.
