Potomac Falls High School

There may be some items that change, but the majority of the items are outlined in order to provide you with written
Classroom Objective: My goal for the class is to work as a unit in order to find success, educationally and personally. I am a
true proponent of respect on every aspect of the word. If there is not an environment in which respect is maintained, I do not
feel that there is room for trust and support. There will be a vast amount of literature exploration through class discussion,
written analysis, research, and real life application. You will be expected to own your education and will be held to that
Classroom Texts: Copies of the Freshman Textbook, The Language of Literature, will be available as a classroom set.
In addition to selections that we will read from this textbook, be prepared to study the following titles:
1st Quarter: - Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson Outside Reading:
2 nd Quarter: -To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee Students will have a variety of teacher selected
3rd Quarter: -Twelve Angry Men, Reginald Rose novels to choose from to read independently
4th Quarter: -Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare each quarter.
The list provided is not final, therefore, be prepared to potentially study other texts, as well.
While classroom sets will be provided, each student is more than welcome to obtain a personal copy of the text that is
being studied. Before you purchase any texts, please check with me to find out which version we will be using.
The outside reading titles will be read independently, but assessed in the classroom through a cooperative learning project.
Be Punctual: Be on time, to class and when turning in assignments.
Be Prepared: Bring materials needed to class every day.
Be Respectful: Respect others, self, and property.
Be Responsible: Follow directions as given and raise your hand to be recognized.
If any of the classroom expectations are violated, the following consequences will take place.
