TO: Parents/Guardians of Campers and Participants in the Camper Graduates Program: FROM: Elmsford Day Camp Administration 2009 Attached is a guide to Elmsford Day Camp’s Camper Expectations. These expectations will be reviewed and explained on the first day and throughout the first week of camp in age appropriate language. We encourage you to also review these guidelines with your children at home to show that we are all working together. As you review the attached information, should any questions arise, feel free to speak to your child’s counselor, or someone on the administrative director staff. We ask that you fill out the bottom portion of this sheet and return with your child during the first few days of camp. Thank you for your cooperation. nd Please tear off and return with your child(s) by July 2 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Child(s) name__________________________________________Grade(s)______________ I have read and reviewed the expectations for Elmsford Day Camp. Parent Signature_______________________________________Date____________________ 2009 CAMPER EXPECTATIONS Elmsford Day Camp Summercamp@elmsfordny.org (914) 760-1953 Camp Director: Cristina Oliva Assistant Directors: Ryanne Sialiano, Joan Jones Camper Grad Director: Matthew Evans Sports Director: John Mazziotti Drama Director: TBD Art Directors: Lynn Quinn and Marie Rockstroh Camp Health Director: Rose Califana The Three Most Important Rules that Shape Our Camp Philosophy:  BE SAFE!  BE NICE!  HAVE FUN  *Each counselor will go over the group’s rules/expectations on the first day of camp in age appropriate language! *We want camp to be fun for everyone, but just like school…there are rules! GENERAL EXPECTATIONS: Campers are expected to: *Adhere to safety regulations of the camp *Follow pool rules as directed by lifeguards. *Follow bus safety rules *Follow the buddy system on camp trips and during swim time *Respect counselors and administrative staff, as they would respect their teachers. *Keep hands and feet to themselves *Treat other campers the way they want to be treated. *Help keep our camp clean, by picking up after themselves. *Refraining from using inappropriate language. Dress for CAMP: *Campers should wear sneakers and socks everyday for safety. Bring sandals or water shoes for the pool and sprinkler time. *Campers are encouraged to dress appropriate to the weather: shorts and light weight tee shirts. *Camp Shirts MUST be worn on trips! *The following clothing is NOT ALLOWED: -Short Shorts -Bikini bathing suits -Shirts with offensive sayings or illegal advertising -Crop top tee shirts -Baggy pants -Offensive tattoos -Body piercings *WE HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR BULLYING!!!!! CONSEQUENCES: Campers who have difficulty with the bullying policy and/or the rules listed above will have age appropriate consequences including: *Time outs from activities *Loss of daily privileges *Conference with counselor *Conference with director *Phone call/meeting with parent SERIOUS BEHAVIOR: *The following behaviors can result in suspension or dismissal from camp: *Fighting and violence *Bullying and Peer Pressure *Drug/Alcohol Use *Harassment of others/Violation of bullying policy *Destruction of Camp Property *Violation of Safety Rules ELECTRONICS: *As a camp, we will not take responsibility for any electronics brought to camp, that are then lost, stolen, or misplaced. We encourage campers to leave ipods, PSPs, Discmans, etc. at home. If parents feel cell phones are a necessity, for the children’s ‘walk’ home, these campers are encouraged to ‘check’ their phones in the office and pick up at dismissal, to avoid losing them. Again, we do not take responsibility for lost phones. Additionally, campers and camper graduates should not be using their phones while at camp, and parents will be contacted, and phones will be held until parents pick them up, if this is becomes a problem. Any questions, please contact the directors. PARENT NOTIFICATION: *IF there are any serious disciplinary issues involving your child, we will notify the parents/guardians right away… *IF you feel an issue was not handled properly, please contact your child’s counselor or someone on the director staff immediately. Your concerns are our concerns. ABSENCES: If your child(s) will be absent from camp, please notify the camp by sending in a note ( if a long term absence) or leaving a message on the camp phone at (914) 760-1953. If your child(s) is absent, and we did not expect it, we will be calling your home. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT: *Campers are recognized weekly as “Campers of the Week” if they are models of the camp rules and give 100% effort in camp activities. *Positive Behavior Plans are often used for children who may need a little extra help with the camp expectations. QUESTIONS? Please Keep the lines of communication OPEN… Speak to your child’s counselor/teacher or one of the directors on staff if you have any concerns… We are here to help you feel at ease, while your child is in our care.
