Position Summary Under the direction of the Director of Health, the Health Policy Analyst is responsible for contributing to the overall Health Program including coordinating specific of health projects as assigned. The Health Policy Analyst is responsible for the effective implementation of a culturally relevant gender based perspective into all policy analysis and development. The position also includes proposal and work plan development in new areas identified as emerging priorities. Education/Experience An undergraduate university degree in the health, social sciences, or public administration fields is required and at least two years experience working within the Aboriginal health or social fields; Candidates with a diploma with a minimum of five (5) years experience will be considered; Experience in plain language writing, communicating with diverse stakeholders, editing and presenting information and working with community groups; Specialty in maternal child health is an asset. Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of and demonstrated commitment to the principles, values and mandate of the Native Women’s Association of Canada; A thorough knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Peoples, their cultures, histories and traditions;
Candidates must have thorough understanding of gender-based analysis and its application in the health field; Knowledge of health and related issues affecting Aboriginal women and their families, with particular emphasis on social determinants of health; Working knowledge of relevant legislation, programs, services and understanding of their application and implications for Aboriginal women; Proven proposal development skills, and familiarity with relevant government funding bodies and contribution agreement negotiation processes; Sound knowledge of and ability to develop policy positions and administer, manage and coordinate programs and projects; Strong research, writing and verbal communication skills; Sound financial management skills, including the ability to formulate budgets and review financial statements; Ability to prioritize, multi task and organize work effectively and under pressure; Willingness to travel, work outside of normal business hours when necessary; and Good computer skills including excel, word, desktop publishing, power point, photo editing, internet etc. Language English is essential. Bilingualism is considered an asset. Citizenship Canadian citizen or permanent resident (eligible to work in Canada). Preference will be given to Aboriginal candidates or those of Aboriginal descent.
