Paid Internship - Marketing
6 month contract (Full – Time)
Job description
Purpose of Post
This is a creative role supporting the work of the Marketing Department at artsdepot,
and an exciting opportunity to experience working in an arts venue. You will develop
a broad understanding of marketing principles, and be involved in marketing a range
of art forms including comedy, theatre, music, dance and children’s shows.
The role is offered as an internship, and you will receive regular support and
mentoring to facilitate learning and development. You will be entering the marketing
team at an exciting time; the new season launches in September, there will be a 5th
birthday celebration event in October and during the autumn season there will also
be a strong focus on selling the Christmas show. artsdepot is also launching a new
membership scheme in autumn.
The role has a focus on building relationships with community organisations, but you
will also have a chance to be involved in a wide range of marketing activity, including;
website, Direct Mail, e-bulletins, Press and PR, and print production.
This role is an ideal stepping stone for someone looking for a long term career in arts
marketing.

Principal Responsibilities
Sales & Marketing
To help deliver the artsdepot sales and marketing strategy by working on
marketing initiatives to support the artsdepot brand, the range of activities and
artsdepot as a destination.
Working with the Marketing Manager on co-ordination of tri-annual season
brochures (and ad-hoc print), with responsibility for collating imagery, copy
and accuracy of content.
Co-ordinating the production of other publicity materials as required, including
some created in-house.

Responsibility for print management: ordering print from companies,
authorising overprinting, management of stock levels and the print room.
Distribution of print at libraries, community groups, community events, exit
flyering at artsdepot or at external events.
Responsibility for all front of house displays, including creating eye-catching
displays for shows, powerpoint presentations for the plasma screen, stocking
flyer racks and maintaining the community wall
Support profile raising initiatives and any market research required.
Managing online listings with third party websites
Managing the relationships with schools and community groups, this includes;
researching community organisations to target for marketing campaigns,
mailing organisations, following up mailing with telephone calls, processing
ticket giveaways for schools and discussing the artsdepot programme on
hospital radio
To assist with the day to day running of the new membership scheme.
To liaise with artistic companies, hirers and users of artsdepot to support their
engagement with the venue
Working on campaigns with the Marketing Manager writing direct mail letters,
press releases and other copy as requested
General marketing support tasks such as managing the general enquiry email
account, booking couriers, and any other activities as requested by the
Marketing Manager
Communications
Protect the use of the artsdepot brand in all forms of communication internally
and externally
Support internal communications to ensure staff, volunteers and Board
members have up to date knowledge about artsdepot activities.
Represent artsdepot with external stakeholders and the wider arts
community, building relationships to help generate an income for artsdepot.
Other Sales & Marketing Activity
Assisting at Box Office as required
Attendance at artsdepot performances, activities and press nights, within the
venue and in the community.
To be fully conversant with the artsdepot facilities and terms of trading

Personal Specification
Essential
Energy and enthusiasm for working in an arts venue, and a willingness to
learn
Previous experience in an arts environment
Desire to develop a career in arts marketing
Educated to degree standard
High standards of literacy, with excellent copywriting skills and attention to
detail
Excellent verbal communication and social skills
Computer literacy with experience of MS Office packages
The confidence to deal with the public and give informal presentations to
community groups
Good numeracy skills
Good organisational skills
A professional appearance
Willingness to work flexibly
Ability to work well as part of a team
Desirable
Knowledge of Pro Venue Databox box office system
Desktop publishing experience
Driving license and own transport
Conditions of service
Salary is £13,000 per annum (ie £6,500 for six months)
Regular working hours are 9am to 5.30pm. However, the standard opening hours
of artsdepot are from 9am until 11pm seven days a week, with later opening on
occasions, although this may be subject to change
This post will include out of office hours duties, such as evening meetings and
events. These are considered to be part of your core commitment to artsdepot.
There will be no overtime payments, but time off in lieu of significant extra working
hours may be taken with prior agreement of your line manager.
You are entitled to 20 days holiday per annum which equates to 10 days pro rata
during the contract period.
You will be expected to actively participate in the implementation of artsdepot
Trust’s policies with regard to equal opportunities, access, cultural diversity and
health and safety.

You must ensure that all operations are carried out within the relevant Health and
Safety legislation.
You must ensure the intentions and requirements of the artsdepot’s Equal
