Red Clay Consolidated School District Board of Education Policy
Schedules, Salaries, and Benefits
A. Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to establish set guidelines for the development of a calendar that outlines general work schedules including work days and holidays for employees in the Red Clay Consolidated School District (“the District”), for the compensation of those employees, and for benefits for employees who are not covered by collective bargaining agreements. This policy is needed to inform all staff of the policy of the Red Clay Consolidated School District Board of Education (“the Board”) regarding employees’ work schedules, salaries, and benefits. B. Issue: The expectation set in place by this policy is that all staff will be informed of their work schedule at the beginning of each school year. It is also expected that all employees will receive some benefit compensation. This policy must be applied in all instances of District operations. All District employees are expected to comply with this policy. This policy does not apply to external consultants. If this policy is not implemented, District planning for staff may be impeded. Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action. C. Definitions: Benefits: A payment made to a claimant or entitled person by an employer or other institution in addition to base salary; includes insurance benefits, leaves of absence, retirement benefits, and similar fringe benefits. Holiday: A day set aside by law or otherwise, usually to celebrate or commemorate something that happened on or near that date, on which employees are not scheduled to work. Schedule: An outline of the times and dates during which employees are expected to work. D. Policy: The Board recognizes that a calendar shall be set each year that outlines work days, holidays, and general work schedules for District employees. The working year for the teaching staff will be set forth on the school calendar adopted by the Board. The number of teaching days will conform to state requirements for the number of instructional hours. The determination to employ professional personnel for an extended year will be a responsibility of the Board acting on the recommendation of the Superintendent. The yearly schedule of all principals and other administrative personnel employed on a 12month basis includes all weekdays of the year with the exception of individual vacation periods, legal holidays, and other holidays declared by the Board for all school personnel.
