  Increase in Claims
Communication Providers
What is the problem?
To communicate with a wide variety of
insurers or other trading partners, shops
 or independent appraisers must implement
 multiple processes. These may include:
   Communication through a specific

    communication provider integrated with the
    estimating system (Traditional Method)
   Communication through specific

    communication providers that are not
integrated with the estimating system (New
    Approach)

Real Costs
The introduction of new communication
requirements imposes quantifiable
costs, such as:
 System acquisition costs and/or per
   transaction charges
  Telecommunication costs (e.g., Internet
   Service Provider, phone lines, DSL
   service)
  Installation and maintenance costs

  Hardware upgrades
 Internal and external training costs

  Ongoing internal user training
Potential Solutions
 Standards such as EMS, EDI, X12 help
 However, there is no certification to

     ensure compliance with the standards
 New standards may be required

 Unique Insurer communication
  specifications and processes could be
  minimized
 Unbundle integrated communication
costs/fees to make it easier to utilize
  different communication providers
Questions to be answered
 What are the challenges with
  implementing this new approach to
  communication?
 How can standards or cooperation
among industry players be used to
  limit these real costs?
 What can be done to eliminate
  barriers and streamline the
  process?
