these issues, indicating that the government’s action plan lacks a “comprehensive” strategy on how to
address these issues.
On political reform, deputy Saleh Darwish (Irbid, Second District), said that any political revival
endeavour should focus on promoting “patriotism” which leads to creating self-censorship among
citizens. Speaking on behalf of the People’s Parliamentary bloc, MP Salameh Ghweiri (Zarqa, First
District), stressed the role of political parties and civil organisations in achieving the envisioned
political change, calling for boosting public freedoms.
Deputy Abdul Qader Habashneh (Karak, First District), indicated that expanding medical insurance and
social security umbrellas to include all citizens, in addition to free education are the only ways to
achieve stability, progress, prosperity and more importantly, social security. For his part, Deputy
Ayman Majali (Karak, Second District), indicated that supporting political parties, combating
corruption and “unleashing” public freedoms are the keys to successful reforms. On the relationship
between the legislative and executive authorities, MP Wasfi Rawashdeh (Maan, Second District), called
for building a strong Cabinet-House relationship to serve the public interests. Rawashdeh also pointed
out that realising political reform lies in supporting political parties, amending the Elections Law as
well as enhancing the role of the Parliament. In addition, the MP called on the government to
implement development projects in Shobak to upgrade the living conditions of its citizens.
Highlighting that political revival is the key to progress and prosperity in the country, MP Mustafa
Shneikat (Balqa, First District), said that the absence of the active role of political parties and civil
organisations has led to the rise of “individualism”, which has caused the social violence phenomena.
Shneikat, who spoke on behalf of the Democratic Assembly bloc, indicated that boosting political
parties, amending the Elections Law, the Decentralisation Law and Press and Publications Law, are the
basics for political revival.Describing the Cabinet’s action plan as “loose” and “unrealistic”, Deputy
Wafaa Bani Mustafa (Jerash), said that the government should take serious measures to put an end to
corruption, as it is the most important factor that hinders the political and economic development.

Private hospitals, insurance providers reach agreement
The Private Hospitals Association (PHA) and the Jordan Association for Medical Insurance (JAMI) on
Wednesday reached an agreement to save a deal guaranteeing discounted medical services for
insured patients.
The PHA and the JAMI said they agreed to sign a draft addition to an agreement signed on January 11
regulating the arrangements between 39 private hospitals of the PHA and insurance companies.
After a meeting yesterday, attended by Minister of Industry and Trade Amer Hadidi and Health
Minister Mahmoud Sheyyab, the two associations agreed to change the draft’s proposed discounts of
15 per cent on medical services to 20 per cent.
They also agreed to add a 6 per cent discount on medicines provided by private hospitals to insurance
beneficiaries, the PHA and JAMI presidents, Awni Bashir and Nazeer Bate, told The Jordan Times
yesterday.
They said the new protocol, to be signed today, will provide the basis for individual contracts between
private hospitals and insurance companies, honouring the signed agreements.
Bashir previously told The Jordan Times that beneficiaries will have to pay for services at private
hospitals and then receive the compensation from insurance providers if these individual contracts
were not signed before January 2011.
