This will be the final letter in regards to the trip to Orlando, Florida scheduled for
December 28th – January 2nd.
I have included all relative information, including the itinerary for the trip. Also
included is a list of items that you should take with you, along with any trip regulations.
There is a signed acknowledgement at the bottom of this letter that will have to be returned
prior to any student attending the trip.
Your son/daughter will need to give me $ 30.00 for two meals – breakfast on the way
down, and back – prior to December 18, 2009. All of their other meals are covered through meal
vouchers. Any other spending money for souvenirs is up to you.
The student leaders and I have discussed the trip regulations, and have tried to be as fair
as we can be, but I want to assure you that I take my responsibility for the safety of your
children very seriously. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at

I am very excited about this trip, and am looking forward to it, despite what you may
think! These students have certainly earned their opportunity to be rewarded this year!
The Pride of Salem
2009 Orlando Trip Regulations
1. You are a representative of Salem High School, the City of Salem, and most especially, your parents
and yourself. Be courteous with everyone you meet – the bus drivers, the Walt Disney World and
Universal Studios staff members, hotel staff and our chaperones. Mature social behavior, including
the avoidance of abusive or foul language is expected of all students.
Our motto is - “Remember who you are!
and act that way at all times – even if no one is watching”
2. Directions given by the Director, Band Staff, student leaders, or chaperones are to be strictly followed.
3. Always conduct yourselves as ladies and gentlemen. When we are in restaurants, do not harass,
demand, or make the job of the server/waiter/waitress more difficult than it already is.
Remember – it always takes a little longer with large groups – Be patient!
a. There is a medical form attached to this letter that needs to be returned by Friday, December 18
along with the parent signature. All students must have these forms filled out in their entirety.
b. All medications (including non-prescription such as Tylenol, etc.) are to
be given to the adult on your bus before leaving the school on Tuesday
c. All prescription medications are to be in their original container
(bottles) with the student’s full name, name of medication, and
d. The adult on each bus will dispense all medications, and all students will take their
medications in their presence.
e. Diabetics should bring their glucometer with them.
f. Anyone with insect or other severe allergies requiring adrenaline (epinephrine)
need to bring their kit or epi-pen.
g. Students with asthma should bring their inhalers – you will be able to carry
it with you; however, you will need to let the proper person know if you
have used it immediately after such use.
5. At the motel:
No mixed (male and female) company in the rooms at any time, with the exception of Mr.
Paxton’s room, and Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Carr and
a. There is to be no running, or loud talking at the hotel. Other guests will be staying at our
hotel, and they did not pay to hear teenagers there.
b. Do not open your door to anyone who cannot be identified as one of our group – chaperones,
directors, staff, etc. Call a chaperone or Mr. Paxton if this happens.
c. Please use your cell phone, a calling card or call collect in order to make long distance calls.
d. There are to be NO CHARGES made to any room – this includes games, etc.
6. All school rules apply on this trip:
a. This means no alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, or drugs are to be in your possession.
b. Guns, knives, or anything else that can be considered a hidden weapon are not to brought with
you on the trip. Disney World or Universal Studios will prosecute anyone who brings a
weapon to their parks.
c. They may not allow you to take book bags into the park. Be assured that they will check all
bags taken in.
d. You must carry your Musical Destinations badge with you at all times. There will be
emergency cell phone numbers with it in cases of emergency.
7. Dress Code:
a. Please realize that we will be in Florida and you may need sunscreen and a hat.
b. No rips, tears, or holes in any clothing.
c. Shirts must have a back and cover your stomach.
d. Tank tops must have at least a 2 finger thick strap.
e. ALL undergarments must be covered.
f. Prepare for all weather – rainy, cool, and hot weather all are prevalent this time of year in
g. NO spandex shorts, and for other kind of shorts – school dress code applies.
h. No t-shirts with any inappropriate words/phrases, etc. (I prefer t-shirts not to be worn.)
The Band Director will be the judge on this trip as to what is or isn’t appropriate.
8. At Disney World/Universal Studios
a. 4 people to a group at all times – One person must be a Male Vet.
b. You are allowed to interact with family members present – but must stay in this group except
for the designated time on Wednesday at the Magic Kingdom. During that time – if you are
not with your family – you must be in your 4 person group.
c. Please remember that at all times during this trip you are under the band’s responsibility – not
d. You are under the Band Director’s responsibility from the time we muster on Mon, Dec. 28th to
the time you are dismissed on Jan. 2nd
9. On the buses:
a. From 12:00 midnight until we make our breakfast stops. This applies to the trip down and
back – sleep, quiet time will prevail.
b. You must ride the bus you signed up for.
c. Single Gender seating at all times.
d. ALL movies must be PG-13 or lower, and must be approved in advance by the Director. Bring
any movies to be approved to the rehearsal on Monday, December 28.
e. You must be a in a seat at all times, except to throw trash away, or use the restroom. This is a
Department of Transportation regulation.
A. The Band rule applies – actually – it covers everything I’ve listed above.
B. Under school rules – all students and bags are subject to search for the safety and pleasure of
all participants on the trip.
C. The chain of “command” on this trip is as follows:

Mrs. Hartless, Mrs. Binner, the Huffs, Mrs. Berbert
7.) Squad Leaders
Please do not spoil the trip for yourself or anyone else by figuring out ways to “beat the system”.
Parents will be contacted and asked to provide transportation home for you should
you choose not to follow either written or verbal directions.

8:00 a.m. - Stop for breakfast (probably in Statesville, NC)
12 noon - (approx) – Arrive back in Salem exhausted and happy!

Look for updates the morning we arrive, around 6:00 and 11:00 each day.
I will definitely update it when we depart Orlando for Salem.
2005 Florida Trip
You may take one piece of luggage period, and one carry-on. Be sure that your luggage
has your name on both the inside and the outside. Be prepared for sunny, rainy, hot, and cold
weather. Temperatures are usually in upper 60’s to 70’s during this time period
Here is a checklist of items you will need (this is just a recommendation)

Here is a summary of “dress code” for performances at Disney:
Everyone will be in complete (no abbreviated) uniform
for the performance in both theme parks
No jewelry will be worn while performing!
NO exceptions! This is a Disney policy and is our policy as well.
