                                                    A    t their August 16th meeting, the County Commissioners will consider their first
                                                         county tax exemption application since implementing the program. The tax exemp-
                                                    tion referendum passed by 61% of registered voters in November of 2010 as another
                                                    tool to use for economic development purposes. It is a local option tax incentive for a
                                                    qualifying new business or existing business expansion granted at the discretion of the
                                                    County Commission.

                                                    It may be important today to remember the details about the tax exemption program
                                                    and why it is important to Indian River County.

     Wednesday                                      The tax exemption program does not:
                                                    •	 Give away any taxpayers dollars,
     August 24th,                                   •	 Waive or eliminate payment of impact fees,
                                                    •	 Waive or eliminate infrastructure requirements under County’s land development

                                                    •	 And it does not reduce or eliminate current taxes on real property.

                                                    sessed values such as inventory, and the additional sales taxes from increased

                                                    The County Commissioners designate the length of the tax exemption period based on

                                                    The first tax exemption application from INEOS New Planet BioEnergy is a good remind-
                                                    er that this program was put in place to help our County compete for businesses that
                                                    bring high-quality jobs. And, it makes a statement that we are serious about business,
                                                    providing job opportunities, and increasing the tax base in Indian River County.
