This is a suggestion from Shane Bowe of Red Lake Nation This was a suggestion from Shane Bowe of Red Lake Nation and Nancy Schuldt from Fond du Lac. They do lake monitoring and gather data from multiple depths. They would like to be able to select a depth and then get all data at the depth level. This could be applied to line graphs, bar graphs and box and whisker. Shane Bowe of Red Lake Nation suggested that it would be nice to be able to change the percentiles from the stock one that are currently offered on the Box and Whisker graph. Shane Bowe from the Red Lake Nation made the suggestion to have the ability to select the months to look at data over many years. His example was he would like to see the values for June, July and August over the last 5 years. He would use this to look a pesticide data during the growing season. Need the ability to split large WQX exports into many smaller files (and multiple datasets). (particularly when doing a full export.) We probably should also be aware of how attachments can bloat submission files. Breaking files into a certain # of records per file would not be good enough. It needs to also be aware of the attachments and their sizes to determine the right spot to break files up. Enhance the Export To Excel button on the list pages to include all the fields rather than just the ones displayed on the list page. This would be particularly useful for Projects, Monitoring Locations, Indices, and possibly Activity Groups (since they don't have any other way to export them). By adding all columns, you could easily review the entire lists, and also be able to make changes to them in Excel and then reimport them (with functionality that already exists). This would be convenient for batch updates. For example, export Monitoring Locations to Excel, update the HUC and County for each one and then re-import them into the system. This would be faster than manually editing each one in the application. Enhance AWQMS to be able to import XML files. Since the WQX XML standard is becoming well recognized and supported, it would be useful to be able to import a WQX XML File. This would allow you to download data from the STORET Data Warehouse or receive a WQX file from any other organization and load it into AWQMS. You could import data from border states or organizations within your state that send their data to EPA. This data could then be graphed, reported (and someday even mapped), alongside your data, for analysis. Enhance AWQMS to be able to synchronize lookup tables with WQX. When EPA adds new characteristics, taxa, analytical methods, etc to their lookup tables, AWQMS gets out of sync. It's up to a user to investigate these changes and manually enter/update the lookup tables in AWQMS. We recently created services in WQX that allow a system to download the WQX Lookup Tables. It would be great to leverage these new services in AWQMS and have it periodically update it's tables to match WQX. Came from UT discussions. Needs more detail. Enhance AWQMS to have a Single Monitoring Location Geometric Mean Over Time Report. Enhance AWQMS - Be able to hide/unhide the menu to gain real estate on the pages. Certain fields in the criteria and search pages allow the use of the percent sign as a wildcard character. Need to make this capability more apparent by adding some instructions to the page. ....OR is there some other ingenious solution? While giving demos of the DAT, I found myself wishing I could keep the same criteria in the criteria page and switch to a different graph or report without having to re-enter the criteria. I think the users will really want this new feature. Enhance AWQMS to provide a rapid entry page optimized for fish data Not really sure yet how this would be different than our existing rapid entry page. Needs analysis. That way the ND values are easy to identify and sort/filter in excel. I notice the new release does not allow a negative MDL/LQL factor. I can imagine two possible solutions: 1. The more complicated solution would be to add a column for each characteristic to flag non- detects. 2. Probably easier solution would be to re-allow the use of negative values for MDL/LQL factor. WQX, and AWQMS for that matter, can store continuous data but there are some issues with putting all the continuous data into WQX and AWQMS. The largest problem is that WQX requires a lot of metadata, which is not necessarily needed for continuous data, so the database can get really large quickly. The more data in the database will affect the performance of the AWQMS application. EPA suggests, and we advocate this as well, loading the averages of continuous data (hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly) into AWQMS and WQX, and then attach a zip file of the raw data that supports the reported averages. That way you have the averages so that anomalies can be spotted as well as the raw data to support the averages for anyone that consumes the data later. I have heard EPA say that they would like to build a subset of the WQX database that requires less metadata for the continuous data to be warning on This would be the user is unlikely to occur anytime soon. Add a "Save and Add Another" button to the Result Detail Page. When clicked, the current result would attempt to save. If successful, a message would tell the user their result had saved but the form would be blank so they can immediately It would be helpful to be able to hit a hot key to Save, Return, or Cancel. Hot keys for paging would also be nice. Consider using Esc for Cancel. There might be an issue contending with browser hot keys (and it might be different on different Consider enhancements to the Result List Page to allow an Org Admin to perform batch updates on the following fields: Result Status Measurement Unit Sample Fraction Characteristic? This could allow a user to clean up inconsistent data with missing sample fractions, or inconsistent units. Also, it could allow a user to batch update the result status (after performing a review, for example). Be able to enter your criteria once and generate the whole suite of graphs and reports (or a selected set of them) all at the same time. Preferences for consideration: * Default Sort order for Element Pick List (Name or XML position) (for WQX Web but not so important for AWQMS.) * Warn when ignoring first row of an import file. Default Pref = Warn * What Result Statuses to include on the XML Export * Consider refactoring the user preference for delimiter to be used for the default delimiter for flat file exports. It currently doesn't have much (or any) use. Be able to export reports directly to Word at the touch of a button without having to perform manual formatting and copy and paste steps. Have a Preference for a Background Image with Override at Graph Generation Time OE2 - The system shall provide the capability to export the data used to generate any of the statistical reports provided. 10/7/2010 - Update - The system has met this requirement because now that the criteria is retained when moving between the different reports, graphs, and exports you can easily export the data that was used to generate a graph. Therefore I'm changing this ticket to be the following: "Add an Export Data to Excel button to the bottom of the report pages." The button would work exactly like the Export to Excel button beneath the graphs works. OG12 - The system shall allow the capture and graphing of “depth-integrated data”; which is data values captured at different depths at the same location at the same time (e.g. for profile information for Lakes, Reservoirs, Groundwater, and Wetlands), without having to define each depth as a separate location. Add search function to all Lookup Tables, but especially critical for: o Personnel (locally-managed) o Analytical Method (hybrid) o Measurement Unit (EPA) o County (EPA) o HUC (EPA) Jim/MN Identify AWQMS-specific fields versus national WQX fields [on Detail Pages] so the user knows which data does / does not go to EPA. It would be nice to be provided a rough estimated time of completion for queued datasets that are "Waiting to Import" and "Waiting to Migrate". This would require us to record statistics on previous dataset import/migrates; probably a lot of work, but it'd be a nice feature for anyone migrating a lot of data. OG1 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a line graph for multiple characteristics sampled at multiple locations over time. Each characteristic would have its own scale displayed to accommodate characteristics OG4 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a line graph for any one of the afore-mentioned characteristics sampled at multiple locations over time where the locations are all from within the same watershed and are organized in an upstream to downstream alignment. The user will be able to select the characteristic to be graphed, the locations to be included, a date range, and the sample fraction. OR7 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a report that details the number of exceedances that occurred on a given stream segment (as defined by HUC8 and HUC12 data in AWQMS) over a given date range. The report would show the details of each exceedance grouped within stream segment including the characteristic, unit, value, and the standard. OR8 - Report: Metals exceedances including the ability to dynamically calculate the "hardness"-based standard for each result. Based on a predefined list of what characteristics are considered to be "metals". OR9 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a report that summarizes the number of exceedances that occurred for characteristics that are ammonia at a given location during a given date range. OD5 - The system shall provide a mechanism that allows the user to flag a location from any organization as a “reference location” for the user‟s location. Be able to select a HUC in the criteria page and the system would then automatically know which locations should be included in the query. (Currently there is no way to group locations in a HUC). If I leave the 1970 default but there isn't data until 2002, the data all get scrunched into a corner. Any chance in the next iteration that we can have it focus on the years where data are available? The comparison would be how the DAT currently handles it if you select two sites to graph for DO but only one site has DO data... it leaves the other site off the graph. Any chance we could do the same for the year? It's not a big deal b/c you can go back in and refine your search. I was just wondering. >>We think this is something that could be done but we haven‟t had the time to look into it. Sort of an “Auto-Zoom” feature. I‟ll make sure it is in the cool ideas list. Be able to select the sort order within each location group. For example sort within the location by the value (highest to lowest) or sort by the date or maybe by the %difference highest to lowest. Oracle database allows calculation of percentiles in two ways, the percentile_cont (interpolated) method and the percentile_disc (actual value) method. We currently use the interpolation method. However, the user could be allowed a choice if for some reason the interpolation method didn't suit their needs at the time. Box And Whiskers Plot - Allow User to Specify Whisker Basis and Include/Exclude Unusual Values. This would be set of preferences that would be overrideable at the graph criteria page. Whiskers default to the 10th and 90th percentiles but can be changed. Also, you can opt to show markers for datapoints that lie outside of the whiskers. New Load Report - Including the Ability to calculate loads - load = mass balance equation where you multiple the discharge x concentration (TSS, nutrient, etc. It was suggested that the system would need to handle Ecoli average monthly and daily loads. More follow-up is needed in order to better understand the specifics of the suggestion. Implement a "Zoom" Feature on Existing Graphs. On the criteria page(s) we need to display some text that explains what the graph or report is and why/how it might be used. (Tina will provide this text). Pull in flow data from various web services such as the USGS and include it with data on reports and graphs. Line Graph - Give this graph capability to have dotted or dashed lines if data is not present or if data has been excluded. OR6 - The system shall provide the ability to generate a report that provides an excursion analysis with confidence intervals. OR5 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a report that shows whether a site has data in terms of “Presence”, “Absence”, “Too Numerous to Count” for a given characteristic at one or more locations over a given range of time OR4 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a report that shows the relative percent difference between two sample result concentrations for a given characteristic. The user will be able to select the characteristic and then “drill down” to select two sample results to be compared. OG11 - Where appropriate, the system shall provide the capability to include a regional or local reference location or set of locations when generating graphs. - GS is thinking that this one has been completed with the ability to include monitoring locations from any organization in the system. Is our understanding correct? OG9 - The system shall provide the capability to graph both parametric data and non-parametric data. OG6 - The system shall provide the capability to generate Stiff diagrams for one or more water samples for depicting cation - anion concentrations. The user will be able to select the samples to be included / compared. OG5 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a pie chart of species composition for macroinvertebrates. The user will be able to choose the Location(s) and date range for samples to be included. OG3 - The system shall allow the user to generate graphs of macroinvertibrate (sample data). Single Characteristic Line Graph - Show Dashed or Dotted Line When No Data Point Exists During Period. From the Region VI Tribes training session: This conversation stems from the multiple hats that the water program people have. They are the waste water, drinking water people for their tribe and see the data as similar. I attempted to let them know that they can store the raw data in AWQMS, but flowing it to EPA would require modifications so that we sent the data to the correct EPA program. Also: Add "Waste Water" and flow it to EPA. Also: Add SDWIS data and flow it to EPA. I‟m generating my beach submission XML and I notice that the export is trying to take all of the attachments. Shouldn‟t that be optional? Perhaps my users want to store documents that they don‟t want to go to the EPA. I‟m going to strip them manually but I just wanted to point this out. Leslie Eagle AK We already have overlaps between these pages. We should consider one criteria page that merges the existing features of the Activity List, Result List, and Data Analysis Criteria Pages. Basically we'd be adding a new output to the DAT Criteria Page that is a list of Activities and/or results. This way we provide ever increasing and improving ways of finding activity/result data and then we just give the user the option of how they want to output the data (report, graph, map, list page, export). Obviously this needs more thought to the flow/layout, but it's an idea that's worth investigating. Ryan. Currently in STORET we establish lakes as stations with the centroid as the coordinate (ALP type = Point of Record). And on each lake station, we establish multiple sampling points with labels (ALP type = Sampling). Finally we associate our lake activities with sampling points rather than points of record (via the AAL table). This lets us query whole lakes or specific sites. And we need the labels (ALP point name) to refer to them repeatedly. I want to avoid storing a variable Activity lat/long without some sort of fixed name to refer to the point. That said, I would have preferred that it be an Activity element rather than a Result element, but that is probably another matter entirely. Jim Porter Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Add Stations On Project assignment (like STORET1.TSMPSA) to Project Detail page Jim/MN Add a Select All option to the Add Activities to Group page. Currently, the page reloads after each check box you select, unless you work fast. Jim/MN Add Project ID to search result page to make it complete and meaningful. Can search by Project ID, but Project ID does not appear on returned page. Since search is by substring, there is a danger of a user assuming that all returned activities belong to one project if the user isn't aware of other substring matches. Add search by Alternate ID Jim/MN Add Project Name search, not just ID (analogous to Monitoring Location ID or Name search) Jim/MN OG2 - The system shall allow the user to generate graphs of data for habitat assessment (scores). The logarithmic axis scale functionality cannot deal with zero and negative values. The criteria page could allow the user to ignore them or, at a minimum, we could display the error at the top of the criteria page rather than letting the system present an ugly error. There may be other alternatives as well. Feedback on Export Criteria Page: - Monitoring locations Clicking each monitoring location is very tedious. Certainly, a "select all" button would help. While clicking the boxes for the monitoring stations, the screen often returned to the top of the Add a user forum or suggestion box feature to AWQMS so users can propose system enhancements and changes. Maybe they could even vote on them. It gets old overriding the 1/1/1970 and current date that currently defaults into these fields. Add User Preferences for Report/Graph/Export Default Date Range. This way, if a user is working with a certain data set a lot, they can enter the dates once in their preferences and then all report/graph/export criteria pages would have the date range copied in from the preference record when the user first enters the criteria page. Preferences for consideration: 1. # of results per page (on list pages). Between 1 and 500. 2. Add a user preference that allow the user to determine the default method for correllating the characteristics on the bi-variate scatter plot. Add a Cancel option on the Dataset Summary Page and add support for cancelling batch processes in the Batch Manager (this will also require support for cancelling in the import/export/migrate routines). Also remember that there are Go through the app and make sure the field lengths match what is in the database so that the app prevents the user from entering more data in a field than the database will allow. Add a user preference to determine the default setting for the value display mode to be used when generating a graph. There was a discussion of how best to correlate result values for characteristics not on the same activity when generating the bivariate scatter plot. For example, there might be a field observation activity on a particular day with a corresponding routine sample activity on the same day. Currently the correlation is done using the activity ID, but in the example the results are on two different activities. Therefore, the system wouldn‟t “know” that the two results should be correlated. The group discussed several possible solutions. The consensus was that none of the potential solutions would be correct 100% of the time and that the system should allow the user to decide at run-time whether to correlate results based on: o The Date and Time of the result‟s corresponding activity, o Just the Date of the result‟s corresponding activity (this would be the default), o The Activity ID. Percent Exceedance - Bold and underline the YES's so they will stand out. In the graph criteria pages allow the user to specify whether they want to be able to see the Y (or possibly both the X and Y) value in a tooltip when they mouse over a datapoint. For example: 1) In the line graph if the user mouses over a Allow the user to specify on the criteria page whether they want the graph to have values labeled on the datapoints. For example: 1) on the line graph each datapoint on the line would have a label containing the Y value for the datapoint. 2) on the means bar chart each bar would have a label at the top of the bar or maybe inside the bar that showed the Y value of the bar. 3) on the box n whiskers plot, the mean could be labeled with the value. 4) on the scatter plot we probably would allow them to see the Y value as a label for each datapoint even though it might not be very useful. Seems strange to have a basic stats report that shows a median value but no mean value. Remember the criteria the user last entered for the report, graph, or export since the last time they ran one in this session. Currently the criteria page for the geometric means bar chart has a field that allow the user to specify how they want zero values to be handled in the geometric means bar chart. We need to add the same field as user preferences and then carry that preference into the corresponding fields on the criteria page. Then the user could override the preference at report run time if they wish. Rather than just hard-coding 1/2 the detection limit for non-detects, you might want to allow the user to set their own percent default (like below) that defaults to 0.5 (for 1/2 the detection limit). This allows the user to have the non-detects be treated however they want ... they could enter a 0 and it would multiply the 0 by the detection limit and essentially substitute in a 0 for reports/graphics. Exclusion is an easy option to implement. The Kaplan Meier approach is more sophisticated and wanted by statisticians. My experience has been that end-users aren't usually all that familiar with the control-click concept to select more than one item in a multi-select list box. Recommend adding on-screen text to assist the user. Example: "Personnel (Use Add the Table Name to the Top of the Editable List of Values to help the user to know for sure that they are editing the right table. Also could do it the way we discussed last Friday by passing the criteria to our existing export logic). Probably good to OG10 - The system shall provide various options (for example, the detection limit, ½ the detection limit, or zero) for handling non-detects when generating graphs. OD4 - The system shall provide a mechanism for the user to categorize a characteristic as ammonia (for use in the Ammonia Exceedance Report).
