Shane Bowe of the Red Lake Nation suggested that the user be allowed to pick
the mean to be graphed as well as to display.
This is a suggestion from Shane Bowe of Red Lake Nation
This was a suggestion from Shane Bowe of Red Lake Nation and Nancy Schuldt
from Fond du Lac. They do lake monitoring and gather data from multiple depths.
They would like to be able to select a depth and then get all data at the depth
level. This could be applied to line graphs, bar graphs and box and whisker.
Shane Bowe of Red Lake Nation suggested that it would be nice to be able to
change the percentiles from the stock one that are currently offered on the Box
and Whisker graph.
Shane Bowe from the Red Lake Nation made the suggestion to have the ability to
select the months to look at data over many years. His example was he would
like to see the values for June, July and August over the last 5 years. He would
use this to look a pesticide data during the growing season.
Need the ability to split large WQX exports into many smaller files (and multiple
datasets). (particularly when doing a full export.) We probably should also be
aware of how attachments can bloat submission files. Breaking files into a certain
# of records per file would not be good enough. It needs to also be aware of the
attachments and their sizes to determine the right spot to break files up.
Enhance the Export To Excel button on the list pages to include all the fields
rather than just the ones displayed on the list page. This would be particularly
useful for Projects, Monitoring Locations, Indices, and possibly Activity Groups
(since they don't have any other way to export them). By adding all columns, you
could easily review the entire lists, and also be able to make changes to them in
Excel and then reimport them (with functionality that already exists). This would
be convenient for batch updates. For example, export Monitoring Locations to
Excel, update the HUC and County for each one and then re-import them into the
system. This would be faster than manually editing each one in the application.
Enhance AWQMS to be able to import XML files. Since the WQX XML standard is
becoming well recognized and supported, it would be useful to be able to import
a WQX XML File. This would allow you to download data from the STORET Data
Warehouse or receive a WQX file from any other organization and load it into
AWQMS. You could import data from border states or organizations within your
state that send their data to EPA. This data could then be graphed, reported (and
someday even mapped), alongside your data, for analysis.
Enhance AWQMS to be able to synchronize lookup tables with WQX. When EPA
adds new characteristics, taxa, analytical methods, etc to their lookup tables,
AWQMS gets out of sync. It's up to a user to investigate these changes and
manually enter/update the lookup tables in AWQMS. We recently created services
in WQX that allow a system to download the WQX Lookup Tables. It would be
great to leverage these new services in AWQMS and have it periodically update
it's tables to match WQX.

to identify and sort/filter in excel. I notice the new release does not allow a
negative MDL/LQL factor. I can imagine two possible solutions: 1. The more
complicated solution would be to add a column for each characteristic to flag non-

LeBaron Subject: RE: data dump Barb, Continuous monitoring is an issue the EPA
HQ has not really fully addressed. WQX, and AWQMS for that matter, can store
continuous data but there are some issues with putting all the continuous data
into WQX and AWQMS. The largest problem is that WQX requires a lot of
metadata, which is not necessarily needed for continuous data, so the database
can get really large quickly. The more data in the database will affect the
performance of the AWQMS application. EPA suggests, and we advocate this as
well, loading the averages of continuous data (hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly)
into AWQMS and WQX, and then attach a zip file of the raw data that supports
the reported averages. That way you have the averages so that anomalies can be
spotted as well as the raw data to support the averages for anyone that
consumes the data later. I have heard EPA say that they would like to build a
subset of the WQX database that requires less metadata for the continuous data

OE2 - The system shall provide the capability to export the data used to generate
any of the statistical reports provided. 10/7/2010 - Update - The system has met
this requirement because now that the criteria is retained when moving between
the different reports, graphs, and exports you can easily export the data that was
used to generate a graph. Therefore I'm changing this ticket to be the following:
"Add an Export Data to Excel button to the bottom of the report pages." The

OG12 - The system shall allow the capture and graphing of “depth-integrated

It would be nice to be provided a rough estimated time of completion for queued

OG4 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a line graph for any
one of the afore-mentioned characteristics sampled at multiple locations over
time where the locations are all from within the same watershed and are
organized in an upstream to downstream alignment. The user will be able to
select the characteristic to be graphed, the locations to be included, a date range,
and the sample fraction.
OR7 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a report that details the
number of exceedances that occurred on a given stream segment (as defined by
HUC8 and HUC12 data in AWQMS) over a given date range. The report would
show the details of each exceedance grouped within stream segment including
the characteristic, unit, value, and the standard.
OR8 - Report: Metals exceedances including the ability to dynamically calculate
the "hardness"-based standard for each result. Based on a predefined list of what
characteristics are considered to be "metals".
OR9 - The system shall provide the capability to generate a report that
summarizes the number of exceedances that occurred for characteristics that are

If I leave the 1970 default but there isn't data until 2002, the data all get

We already have overlaps between these pages. We should consider one criteria
page that merges the existing features of the Activity List, Result List, and Data
Analysis Criteria Pages. Basically we'd be adding a new output to the DAT Criteria
Page that is a list of Activities and/or results. This way we provide ever increasing
and improving ways of finding activity/result data and then we just give the user
the option of how they want to output the data (report, graph, map, list page,
export). Obviously this needs more thought to the flow/layout, but it's an idea
that's worth investigating. Ryan.
Currently in STORET we establish lakes as stations with the centroid as the
coordinate (ALP type = Point of Record). And on each lake station, we establish
multiple sampling points with labels (ALP type = Sampling). Finally we associate
our lake activities with sampling points rather than points of record (via the AAL
table). This lets us query whole lakes or specific sites. And we need the labels
(ALP point name) to refer to them repeatedly. I want to avoid storing a variable
Activity lat/long without some sort of fixed name to refer to the point. That said, I
would have preferred that it be an Activity element rather than a Result element,
but that is probably another matter entirely. Jim Porter Minnesota Pollution

There was a discussion of how best to correlate result values for characteristics
not on the same activity when generating the bivariate scatter plot. For example,
there might be a field observation activity on a particular day with a
corresponding routine sample activity on the same day. Currently the correlation
is done using the activity ID, but in the example the results are on two different
activities. Therefore, the system wouldn‟t “know” that the two results should be
correlated. The group discussed several possible solutions. The consensus was
that none of the potential solutions would be correct 100% of the time and that
the system should allow the user to decide at run-time whether to correlate
results based on: o The Date and Time of the result‟s corresponding activity, o
Just the Date of the result‟s corresponding activity (this would be the default), o
The Activity ID.
