          Persons may present ideas or concerns regarding Johnston School District. No action
          will be taken by the Board at this meeting. Such items will be referred to the
          appropriate administrator(s) for future information and research and reported back to
          the Board at a later meeting. Personalities and behavior of employees are not to be
          presented during this period, but are to be reported to the employee's immediate
          supervisor. The president shall determine the amount of time to be spent for citizen
          participation.

(IO)   A. Commendations

          Choir Honors
          Congratulations to all Chamber Choir members that auditioned for All-State. 20 out
          of 27 students were recalled or made it first round. This is a record for Johnston High
          School! Those students that were recalled are: Sarah Mayer, Laura Cross, Molly
          Schunicht, Kendra Greenfield, Alyssa Becker, Leah Bowman, Katy Davis, Chris
          Dockum, John Temple, Eric Eittreim, Alex Hjelmaas, Ryan Smaha, Tanner Gardiner.

          Iowa All State Chorus
          Students who made the All-State Choir are as follows: Bailey Petersma, Claire Ottley,
          Ryan Bower, Tim Gates, Chris Oatts, Nick Miller, Nick Evans, Leah Bowman, Sarah
          Mayer, Molly Schunicht, Chris Dockum, Alyssa Becker. Ryan Smaha was selected as
          1st Alternate.

Johnston High School Varsity Marching Band
Congratulations to the Johnston High School Varsity Marching Band on an
outstanding season. The band was named 2nd place out of 24 bands at the Valleyfest
Marching Contest, received its 12th consecutive Superior rating at State Marching
Contest, and was named the Grand Champion of the Marshalltown and Waukee
Marching Invitationals. In addition, the drumline, color guard, and hornline were all
named the top groups at various performances. Katie Upton and Leah Bowman were
named outstanding soloists at both the day and night shows at Valleyfest.

Johnston High School All-State Band
Congratulations to the six Johnston High School students who were named to the All-
State Band in auditions on October 24th. Ben Cigan, Matt Gulleen, Leah Schmidt,
Stephanie Thimmesch, and Katie Upton were named to the group after a rigorous
audition process. They will perform in Ames on November 21st at Hilton Coliseum.

Congratulations to Kyle Naig for being selected as one of two All-State accompanists!

Iowa All State Chorus
Congratulations to Alyssa Becker, sophomore, alto in Chamber Choir for being
selected to the Iowa All-State Chorus.

Ashlee Hulbert – 6th place all-conference
Anna Belner – 7th place all-conference
Bailey Eppard – 9th place all-conference

Boy’s Cross Country
Congratulations to Coach Beason and Coach Pat Mattingly and Larry Lipscomb on
qualifying for the state boy’s cross country meet held in Ft. Dodge!

Jon Houp – 5th place all-conference
Larry Lipscomb – 6th place all-conference

Volleyball
Tory Knuth – 1st team all-conference
Corrin Larkin – 2nd team all-conference
Abbey Westemeyer – Honorable Mention
Cassie Curtis – Honorable Mention

Nick Smith – 8th place all-conference, 2nd team all-state ranked 18th

            Congratulations to Coach Brian Woodley, his staff, and the football team on
            qualifying for the 4A state football playoffs. The following were named to the all-

            Girls’ Swimming and Diving
            Congratulations to Coach Shari Walling, her staff, and the swimming/diving team on
            winning the CIML Central Conference regular season and tournament this fall. Also,
            congratulations on winning the regional championship and qualifying a number of
            individuals and relays to the state swimming/diving meet on Friday, November 6 and
            Saturday, November 7. Also, congratulations to Coach Shari Walling on being named
            Coach of the Year in the CIML Central Conference.

       11.03 Iowa Association of School Boards 64th Annual Convention is
             November 19-20, 2009 at Hy-Vee Hall. Pre-Convention activities are
             November 18, 2009.

       11.04 Joint City Council/School Board meeting will be November 30, 2009 at 5:30 at the
             Administrative Resource Center.
