Caterham grinds to a halt as the heaviest snowfall for 18 years
causes treacherous conditions. Residents feel let down by the
council who failed to salt roads or refill salt boxes - see page 5.

                                                                                                 closed by Mandy Self and other residents who had spent
                                                                                                 hours the previous evening assisting stuck motorists.
                                                                                                 “The road closure was down to us, not the council or the
                                                                                                 police,” explained Mandy. “I only wish we had more signs
                                                                                                 to close the top too. It would have avoided so many aban-
                                                                                                 doned broken down cars from being smashed by further
