Tips and Tools Congratulations! You have chosen a wonderful cause to support. All funds raised for Living Beyond Breast Cancer go directly towards our educational and support programs for women and families affected by breast cancer. We are here to help you raise as much money as possible. Below are just a few ideas to get you started. Don’t forget to let us know what your plans are. We are happy to help promote your event or share your great fundraising idea with others! Write Letters Letter-writing is an important part of every fundraising campaign. Draft a letter telling everyone you know a) why you are raising money for LBBC (include personal stories) and b) LBBC’s background (your donors need to know where their money is going). Don’t forget to mention your fundraising goal! Need help writing a letter? Email firstname.lastname@example.org. Use Our Online Fundraising System We are encouraging all yoga participants to fundraise for LBBC. The easiest and most effective way is to set up your fundraising pages. You can register for the event as an individual or as part of a team. Please note that fundraising teams are designed to get several people involved for one similar cause. For example: Jane is a breast cancer survivor. Jane’s daughter Rachel has decided to set up a fundraising team in her honor. She has named the team “Jane’s Strength.” Jane’s husband Ernie decided to join the team, as well as Jane’s sister Myra and their cousins Barbara and Mary. “Jane’s Strength now has 5 team members: Rachel, Ernie, Myra, Barbara and Mary. Each of these people has their own individual fundraising page. Only Rachel can manage the team fundraising page. The team goal is $5,000. Each individual should make their own fundraising goals and together aim to reach $5,000. Each member writes their own letters and sends their own emails asking for individual support while explaining the mission of the team. Jane’s sister-in-law Nan wants to support everyone on the team, but does not want to make individual donations. Rachel can show her how to make a team donation. Barbara and Mary decide to join forces and hold a garage sale with 50 percent of the proceeds benefitting “Jane’s Strength.” They raise $300 for LBBC – Rachel adds this to the offline donations for Team “Jane’s Strength.” Our online fundraising tools are designed to help you, yet may be confusing at times. Please feel free to contact us with your questions. There is also a help feature in Kintera (our online fundraising system). Take some time to explore all of the fundraising tools before you use them. With Kintera, your friends and family will be able to donate to your personal campaign safely and securely online. Good Luck! Yoga Incorporate Yoga into your fundraising. Ask your local studio to get involved. For example, ask the owner to hold a special yoga class and donate all proceeds to LBBC. Or you could ask them to implement a referral system. For example: for every referral, a $5.00 donation will be made to LBBC. This would also work for a gym or spa. Parties Parties are a great way to boost fundraising efforts! Do you know someone who owns a bar or restaurant? Is there a local establishment that you frequent? Is there a new place in town that would benefit from some exposure? Many places will provide food and drinks at a discounted rate. Once a place and rate is established you can determine how much you should charge in order to make a profit. Sports Tournaments/Golf Tournaments Set up challenge matches between individuals or departments for basketball, softball, football or fishing! Charge an entry fee and admission fee. Or dedicate a school sporting event to raise funds for Yoga Unites. Sell refreshments and/or raffle tickets at the events! Get your co-workers, clients, family and friends together for a great day of golf. Golf clubs or public courses will often offer discounted rates. Regardless of the score, everyone wins at this tournament knowing they have helped raise money to support LBBC. Coin Canisters Set them up anywhere you can get permission. Start with the local businesses that you already frequent. Make sure to include information about Yoga Unites for Living Beyond Breast Cancer. Also include an explanation of LBBC’s mission and event details. Be sure to check back periodically for donations. Sell Your Services/Do Some Chores Offer to clean gutters, mow lawns, wash cars or run errands for neighbors in exchange for donations. This is a great way to get teens and kids involved. Sell Rubber Bracelets Everywhere you look you can find someone with a rubber bracelet around their wrist. LBBC now has purple rubber bracelets embossed with “Yoga Unites for Living Beyond Breast Cancer”. We sell these for $2.00 each! However, we are offering them to you for $1.00 each and you can sell them to your friends and family for as much as you want – donating the proceeds to Living Beyond Breast Cancer. This is also a great way to show your support around your wrist! Garage Sale Plan a garage sale to add to your fundraising efforts. Clean out your closets and get team members to donate items. Donate all or a portion of the proceeds to LBBC through your Yoga Campaign. Make sure to let everyone know where the money is going – you’ll probably get more! Get your Company Involved Co-workers can earn money by raffling or selling the following: • Free lunch with the boss • Dinner at the boss’ house • Company apparel • VIP parking spaces • Day off • Dress-down day (jeans or sport clothing) Matching Gifts Check with your company to see if they will participate in a matching gift program. This is an easy and effective way to double or triple your money with only one effort! Ask, Ask, Ask Most importantly, just ask! Don't forget people like your doctor, dentist, hairdresser or mechanic. If you frequent their business, they may be willing to help with your cause. Always remember to send them a thank you letter or something they can display to show they contributed to LBBC. Even if they can't make a donation, ask if they are willing to hang up posters or distribute brochures. We can provide you with these materials.
