Although the June calendar seems filled with activities (and, yes, classes do go on until the very last day), they will soon be part of our memories of this very special year. I’d like to thank you – teachers, staff, parents, students, and volunteers – for a most rewarding and exciting year. As I have said before, I feel very blessed to be part of such a wonderful school. I wish you all a happy, safe, and restful summer and look forward to continuing our shared journey in the fall. This school belongs to all of us in the Springwoods Community so let’s make sure that we do everything possible to take care of it! Report Cards Included with your child’s final report card will be PWCPS Summer Reading guidelines and a supply list for next year. This information can also be found on the Springwoods Web page. MOVING????? If you are moving over the summer, and you have not already returned a moving form, be sure to let the office know. This will assist us in preparing your child’s records in a timely manner as well as planning for the 2009-10 school year. Farewell Springwoods Elementary School bids a fond farewell to Bonnie Alexander, our gifted resource teacher at Springwoods. Mrs. Alexander will be returning to join her husband in Colorado next school year. She will truly be missed. Accountability and school representatives. The Council receives presentations on division instructional programs and has on opportunity to ask questions and raise concerns. The Council provides advice from parents and community members on curriculum and instructional planning through its annual report to the Division Superintendent and the School Board. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month from 7:30-9:30 PM at Independent Hill in the administrative building cafeteria. If you would like to volunteer for either of these positions, please contact Ms. Ripperger. SUMMER REGISTRATION Prince William County Public Schools held kindergarten registration for the 2009-10 school year on April 1st and April 22nd. If you or any of your neighbors missed it, you can register your child during the months of June and August. Children should be registered at their base school. To enter school in September of 2009, a child must reach his or her fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2009. No child who was born after September 30, 2004, will be admitted. Please visit our website for more enrollment requirements. Information on school attendance boundaries is available from the Office of Planning and Assessment at 703-791-7312 or on PWCS website www.pwcs.edu . MyLunchMoney The mylunchmoney.com service for prepayments into cafeteria accounts will not be available after June 10, 2009 for this school year. Parents using the “Smart Pay” option should cancel the smart pay option prior to June 10th if they do not want a prepayment generated at the end of the school year. Cafeteria account balances will remain on the student’s account and be available next school year. MyLunchMoney.com will be available August 20, 2009 for the 2009-2010 school year. The Last Day of School for the 2008-09 school year will be Wednesday, June 17, 2009 with a 12:30 dismissal. Report cards will be sent home on this day. Nurse’s Corner Kristen Mikkelsen, RN mikkelkj@pwcs.edu Pick up Medications: Any type of medication in the health clinic needs to be picked up by June 17th. Per PWCS policy, I am unable to hold or store any medications over the summer months. Any medication that is not picked up will be thrown away. Please remember that an adult MUST pick up the medication. Under no circumstance can a student transport medication to or from school. Health Treatment Plans for 2009-1010: If your child has a treatment plan, I will be sending home new paperwork (asthma, allergy, or emergency) this month. All plans expire on June 17th. New forms will need to be completed by your physician over the summer. Please return the completed forms for the 2009-10 school year before August 21, 2009. SUMMER SCHOOL UPDATE Springwoods Elementary School will host “Catch the Reading Bug”, our own site-based summer school beginning July 13th and ending July 31st from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Students who are enrolled in grades K-5 will have the opportunity to improve reading and math skills through remediation and acceleration activities via individual and small group instruction. If you have completed the Summer School Registration form and returned it to school, you will receive more information concerning summer school in your child’s final report card. If you would like your child to participate in summer school and have not completed the application, please call Ms. Ripperger. Superintendent’s Advisory Council Springwoods Elementary School is seeking a representative and alternate to serve on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council on Instruction during the 2009-10 school year. The purpose of the Superintendent’s Advisory Council on Instruction is to promote effective communication between the Department of Student Learning and ¤ £ ¢ ¡   One Last Reminder: All rising 6th graders are required to receive a Tdap booster before the first day of school. If your child is 11 years old and it has been 5 years since their last tdap immunization, it is mandatory to show documentation in order for your child to start 6th grade. . ies that read together – succeed together!
