Season 6, Episode 2One Way, One Chance
EXT. Jail Late Evening We’re seeing a blank shot of the LA Women’s Correctional Facility, with just a few cars out front. Sawyer walks into the shot. He’s dressed pretty nicely, with a suit and tie.
INT. Jail Reception Desk An African American woman sits at the desk, reading a book. Sawyer walks up to her. SAWYER: “Visiting hours over?” The woman looks at her watch. RECEPTIONIST: “No, you’ve got about ten minutes.” SAWYER: “Good. That’s all I need. I’m here to see Kate Austen.” The receptionist nods and begins dialing her phone. Scene Switch INT. Police Station
Shannon sits inside crying, talking to a detective. DETECTIVE: “Hello, Miss Rutherford. My name is Detective Peterson. I’m gonna need you to answer some questions for me, is that okay?” SHANNON (Sobbing): “Look… I didn’t murder him… He was my stepbrother. I was just in the car with him and something fell on him…” PETERSON: “I’m not saying you did.” SHANNON: “Okay… You just have to believe me…” PETERSON: “Okay, Miss Rutherford. Witnesses say that you were arguing with your brother at the time he ran into the construction supports, causing them to fall. Is this true?” Shannon starts to sob even louder. SHANNON: “You don’t believe me! You have to believe me!” PETERSON (Sighing): “I do believe you, Miss Rutherford. I do.” Shannon gives a slight smile through the tears when gunshots are heard. PETERSON: “Get down! Someone’s attacked us. Stay in this room.” Peterson runs out of the room. Shannon sits scared as someone shoots through the window of the interrogation room. A girl walks in and stands in front of the table. She has a mask on.
WOMAN: “Gimme your wallet.” SHANNON: “I... I don’t have one. It was confiscated.” Shannon starts to get up. WOMAN: “Nuh-uh, honey. Don’t try to be a hero. My men got this place surrounded.” Shannon gets up and starts to run anyway and the woman shoots her in the stomach. She stumbles into Peterson’s arms. The woman takes off her mask. It’s Ana Lucia. ANA LUCIA: “I… I didn’t mean to…” A cop puts her in cuffs, and pushes her to the ground.

INT. Interrogation room Peterson is now questioning Ana.
PETERSON: “Why did you feel you had to come in and rob the station of all places?” ANA: “I… I don’t know… It was kind of a spur of the moment thing I guess…” PETERSON: “We witnessed you and we got you. What do you have to say for yourself?” ANA: “I was going to jail anyway… I was gonna turn myself in for murder when I got to LA from Sydney. But then I… I dunno. I got three guys and we robbed it.” PETERSON: “What do you have to say about the killing that you made yesterday?” ANA: “I didn’t mean to actually shoot her… I guess I just got startled… I jumped. Lost my control and shot her.” PETERSON: “Now you have two counts of murder on your hands, Miss Cortez.” She nods, and sheds a tear. Scene Switch. INT. Jail visiting room Kate sits behind glass as Sawyer sits down. KATE: “Hey, James.”
SAWYER: “Hey, Freckles.” KATE: “They give you a hard time about getting in to visit?” SAWYER: “Nah, they didn’t. Look, Kate, I think we made the wrong decision.” KATE: “Why’s that, James?” SAWYER: “Why not, Kate? You’re locked up.” KATE: “Like Jack said… What’s meant to be is meant to be… I deserved what I got… I know I needed to take responsibility and do my time.” SAWYER: “When do you get out?” KATE: “My sentence is twenty years, with chance for parole in ten years…” SAWYER: “No, Kate… You’ve gotta ask for appeal now.” KATE: “I can’t, Sawyer. It’s not right. I killed Wayne and I have to do my time.” SAWYER: “So you spend all this time on the run and now you decide you’re gonna do your time?” Kate nods. KATE: “Bye, James.” Sawyer gets up and leaves. Scene Three
INT. Lamp Post ELOISE: “Why is it that you want to go back after you worked so hard to get back here?” JACK: “I didn’t know… I didn’t know they were still gonna die… I can’t let it all happen again.” ELOISE: “You chose it, Jack. You can’t change it. Who’s to say that when you get back on the island, they won’t all die again?” JACK: “No one, Eloise. I just believe that it was a mistake to leave it. And I have one question, Eloise. Why is it that only some of us have memory of everything that happened?” Eloise smiles. ELOISE: “Because only some of you were touched.” Jack is confused and doesn’t know what to say. JACK: “What do you mean, touched?” ELOISE: “The ones who remember were touched. By someone very, very important. He visited you in secret and laid a hand on each one of you somehow, some way. He did this to guide you along your path. He also knew this would cause you to have memory of your past situations.”
JACK: “Who the hell visited us, Eloise?” ELOISE: “Oh, I suppose you haven’t heard about it yet.” JACK: “Heard about what?” ELOISE: “Jacob.” Scene Switch. EXT. Suburbs Sayid walks the streets. It’s late at night. He’s holding a piece of paper in his hand. He suddenly stops and turns onto a driveway. He slowly examines the house and rings the doorbell. Someone is heard yelling inside. VOICE: “Who is here at this hour!? This is ridiculous. I was in bed! I—” The door opens, and the person who opens it is shocked to see Sayid. It’s Nadia. NADIA: “S-Sayid?” Sayid smiles. The two embrace. Scene Switch INT. Bedroom
We see Carmen and David Reyes sleeping. They are both in deep sleep when the lights turn on. DAVID: “Who the hell is that?” He still hasn’t adjusted to the light, but whoever turned on the lights has dropped a postcard on his chest. It reads: Greetings from Sydney! David reads it, and smiles. He looks up to see Hurley. HURLEY: “Hey, Dad.” Scene Switch EXT. House Sawyer knocks on the door of a house. He waits, and a familiar face opens it: Cassidy. CASSIDY: “What are you doin’ here?” Sawyer just hugs her. She hugs back. SAWYER: “I think it’s time we had a talk.” Scene Switch
INT. Apartment Helen Norwood sits in her nightgown, drinking coffee and smoking a cigarette. She looks depressed. We hear a buzz. HOTEL RECEPTIONIST: “I got a guest for you, Helen.” HELEN: “Who the hell wants in this late?” HOTEL RECEPTIONIST: “I dunno, some bald guy.” HELEN (Sighing): “Ah, what the hell. Buzz him in.” Helen rinses her coffee cup and puts out her cigarette and we hear knocks on the door. Helen looks out the peephole and sees nothing. She thinks she’s been pranked. She opens the door to see if she can find who did it when she looks down to see Locke, in his wheelchair. HELEN: “John?” LOCKE: “We have a lot to talk about, Helen.” Scene Switch EXT. Lake It’s late at night, but we see two shadowy figures sitting by a lake. We revolve around to see that it’s Sun and Jin.
SUN: “Jin… I am so glad I found you.” JIN: “I don’t even know how it happened, Sun. But I’m glad… I’m glad we could be together without problems…” Sun kisses him on the cheek, and a flashback starts. INT. Airport Terminal Jin and Sun walk calmly down the terminal. We are led to believe that this is after 815 landed. All is well until Jin spots the Hawaiian shirt guy (HSG). HSG gives him a nod, and enters the bathroom. JIN: “I have to use the bathroom, Sun. Wait here.” Jin enters the bathroom. HSG: “Do you have it?” Jin takes the watch off and drops it to the ground. HSG: “Now you didn’t have to do that.” He bends over to pick it up and Jin knees him in the face. HSG is spitting blood on the ground. Jin kicks him while he’s down. Jin pities the bloody man and walks away. End flashback
INT. Lamp Post JACK: “I don’t care about this Jacob. All I want to know is how I can get back. Can I get back?” ELOISE: “There are ways to do that, Jack. But there is only one way to get back, and you only have one chance.” JACK: “What do I do first?” ELOISE: “Firstly, you have to get all your people back here.” JACK: “They’re all happy.” ELOISE: “Then perhaps you should just let them stay. They’ve been through enough.” JACK: “I can’t… We have to finish what we started, even they know that.” ELOISE: “Okay then, Jack. You know what to do.” Jack leaves the lamp post. Scene Switch INT. Cassidy’s house Sawyer and Cassidy sit on the couch discussing things when Sawyer’s phone rings. SAWYER: “I gotta take this.” SAWYER: “Hello?”
JACK: “Hey, Sawyer.” SAWYER: “What the hell do you want?” JACK: “I know you hate me right now, Sawyer, but there’s something that we have to do.” SAWYER (Pissed): “What the hell’s that, Doc?” JACK: “We have to break Kate out of prison.” The phone drops to the floor.
