A martial artist since childhood, Michelle Waterson became known
to fight fans when she was featured on the Oxygen network’s real-
ity TV series “Fight Girls” earlier this year. The 22 year old former
model with the winning smile lost the Muay Thai bout that would
have won her an appearance in the “Fight Girls” finale in Thai-
land, but she made it clear that her journey as a fighter had only
begun. Lauded by her cast mates for her determination, Waterson
has since switched to MMA and will face Jaime Cook of Action
MMA Fight Team at Ring of Fire 30 in her hometown of Denver
this Saturday. Total MMA’s Tommy Hackett caught up with Water-
son to discuss the upcoming bout, her experiences on Fight Girls,
and her future.

Total MMA: You’re preparing for your third MMA bout, your first
in a cage. How is training going?

MW: Training is great. I’m 100% confident in my ground this
time.

Total MMA: What actually inspired you to transition from Muay
Thai into MMA?

MW: (laughs) It’s a funny story, actually. I trained with Donald
Cerrone, just training Muay Thai with him, and one day he goes,
Michelle, I got you a fight. I say, OK! He says it’s MMA, and I’m
like, OK? I started training for it. I took that first fight and I loved
it. I love the fact that it’s so diverse.
